Alaska Scottish Strongman

3nd Annual strongman show held at the Alaska Scottish Highland games. 

Kilts are Mandatory to Compete! Make sure to get yours. 

*Please make sure you have your United states strongman membership card up to date.*

Competitor Event Information Scottish Strongman 

Admission / Parking: Parking is at the yellow gate for competitors. As a competitor you will be able to enter the highland games on Sunday for free since you will be competing Will have member of AOI with your name on a list and your entrance ticket if you have not received Prior to Sunday. Any issues call 90-687-5522. Family, friends, or spectators will have to pay to enter the highland games. 

Tickets: As a competitor you get to enter Sunday June 25 for free as stated above. if you are able to weigh in the day before we will be able to give you your ticket for Sunday. If you are not able to weigh in the day before we will have a person standing at the front of purple gate wearing a competition shirt so you can enter for free on Sunday. Event location: If you haven’t been to the highland games before. It is held at the Alaska State Fairgrounds in Palmer Alaska. It will be held at the Scottish strength field.

Enter time: The Highland games are over two days Saturday & Sunday. Both days the purple gate opens at 8am. The Scottish strongman is held on Sunday June 25 at 10am. 

Weigh ins:

Saturday June 24 at the Scottish Strength Field from 11am – 1pm 

Saturday June 24 at Anchor of iron gym from 4pm-7pm

Sunday June 25 day of competition at 9am

Start time: Rules briefing will start at 10am.            

 

Events and Rules: 

Event 1: Keg Press Ladder - Max Effort

60 second time limit. Athlete will start standing in front of kegs. On the GO command the athlete can then began to clean & press the keg. As the athlete completes the first keg. They can then move down the line cleaning and pressing each keg in the ladder. Once the athlete runs out of time or can’t complete a successful lift the last weight they lifted will be recorded. The Athlete must clean & press each keg for it to count. the keg must set on the ground before the athlete begin to clean the next keg. 

starting weight will be 30lb for all weight classes 

A Good lift: Athlete must lift the keg fully above head with both arms locked, legs and feet in line. While showing control. Once the signal is given for a good lift the athlete must return the keg to the floor under control. Dropping the keg will result in a “NO Lift” (unless the athlete is clearly bailing from an attempt)

Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Gloves, Knee sleeves, Knee Wraps, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Elbow wraps, Belts, Built up belt (one soft belt & one hard belt)

Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky or Towel Tacky, Supportive suits, straps 

 

Event 2: Dinnie Stone Hold - Time

Implements begin on the ground. The Athlete then grips the handles either placing one on the right and one on the left side of the body; or they may place one in front and one behind the body. Time will start when the athlete picks the implements up vertically and both are completely off the ground. The Athlete does not have to be fully erect or locked out in anyway. The implements need to be entirely lifted from the ground. The time will stop once any part of either implement touches the ground.

Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Knee sleeves, Knee Wraps, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Elbow wraps, Belts, Built up belt (one soft belt & one hard belt)

Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky of any sort including tacky towels, lifting straps (of any kind), liquid chalk.

 

Event 3: Husafell Sandbag Carry - Distance

60 second time limit. Athlete will start in front of husafell / sandbag behind the starting line. On the command “GO”. The athlete will pick up husafell / sandbag and carry it down to the other end of the sideline once across the line. the athlete will then turn around and carry it back to the starting line. Once back at the starting line the athlete then will drop the first husafell / sandbag and pick up the second heavier husafell / sandbag and complete the same down and back run. Along with switching between weights each time when returning to the starting line. Distance will be measured once time stops or if athlete choose to stop before time is up. 

Distance: 50ft 

Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Gloves, Knee sleeves, Knee Wraps, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Elbow wraps, Belts, Built up belt (one soft belt & one hard belt), Grip shirts

Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky or Towel Tacky, Supportive suits, Straps 

 

Event 4: Loading Medley - Total / Time

60 second time limit. Athlete will start behind the line on the command “go” the athlete will pick up the first keg in the row. Carry it to the loading platform and load the keg on to the platform once the keg is on the platform securely. The athlete can then run/walk back to the startling line and pick up the next keg in the ladder performing the same routine as before. each keg must be picked up in order for it to count. Event will be scored on total weight of kegs loaded. if two athletes load the same amount of weight it will be scored by which athlete completed the event faster. Athlete stops when time runs out.

Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky or Towel Tacky, Supportive suits, Straps 

 

Event 5: Framer Carry - Distance 

120 seconds. 75ft course. Athletes may start with hands on the implements.  Implement will start on the ground.  Athletes must travel to the other end of the course. once across the line athlete must drop / set down the implement turn around and pick up implement and continue back to the other end. athlete will continue doing this until time is up or athlete drops implement.    

Once the athlete starts traveling from one end to the other the athlete must not drop the implement if the implement is drop the event is over and your distance will be recorded. 

Distance will be measured at the end of the trailing implement.

Distance from cone to cone: 75ft

Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Knee sleeves, Knee Wraps, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Elbow wraps, Belts, Built up belt (one soft belt & one hard belt)

Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky, Straps, Lifting Hooks, figure eight straps, straps of any kind
