Competitor Event Information Scottish Strongman
Admission / Parking: Parking is at the yellow gate for competitors. As a competitor you will be able to enter the highland games on Sunday for free since you will be competing We will have a member of AOI with your name on a list and your entrance ticket if you have not received Prior to Sunday. Any issues call 907-687-5522. Family, friends, or spectators will have to pay to enter the highland games.
Tickets: As a competitor you get to enter Sunday June 30th for free as stated above. if you are able to weigh in the day before we will be able to give you your ticket for Sunday. If you are not able to weigh in the day before we will have a person standing at the front of purple gate wearing a competition shirt so you can enter for free on Sunday. Event location: If you haven’t been to the highland games before. It is held at the Alaska State Fairgrounds in Palmer Alaska. It will be held at the Scottish strength field.

Enter time: The Highland games are over two days Saturday & Sunday. Both days the purple gate opens at 8am. The Scottish strongman is held on Sunday June 30 at 10am.
Weigh ins:
Saturday June 29 at Anchor of iron gym from 4pm-7pm
Sunday June 30 day of competition at 9am, do not wait to till a few minutes before 10am to weigh in. if your not weighed in before 10am we will not wait for you.

Start time: Rules briefing will start at 10am.
Events and Rules:
EVENT 1: Axle Clean & press
60 second time limit. Athlete may start with their hands on the implement. On the command "Go" the athlete can then began to clean and press the axle over head. when athlete has the bar overhead and in control the down command will be given and the athlete can then clean and press the axle over again. athlete will continue this until time runs out or athlete can not continue on. Again the athlete must clean and press each rep. that means you will clean and then press each rep for it to count.
A Good lift: Athlete must clean and press axle fully above the head with both arms locked, legs and feet in line. While showing control. Once the signal is given for a good lift the athlete must return the axle to the floor under control. Dropping the axle will result in a “NO Lift” (unless the athlete is clearly bailing from an attempt). "No Belt cleans" This is where the bar rest on the top of a hard belt in between the transition of the lift.
Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Knee sleeves, Knee Wraps, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Elbow wraps, Belts, Built up belt (one soft belt & one hard belt), Grip shirts
Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky or Towel Tacky, Supportive suits, straps of any kind
EVENT 2: Natural stone to shoulder
60 second time limit. Athlete will start standing in front of the stones. On the GO command the athlete will shoulder a series of stones increasing in weight in the fastest time possible. . As the athlete completes the first stone. They can then move down the line. Once the athlete runs out of time or can’t complete a successful lift, the last weight they lifted will be recorded. Stone must be cleaned to the shoulder. Opposite arm has to be extended for the rep to count. the stone must be set back on the ground before the athlete can begin to move to the next stone.

Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky or Towel Tacky, Supportive suits,
EVENT 3: Deadlift for reps
60 second time limit. Athletes can start hands on the bar on the command "GO", athlete will start deadlifting the first rep once the athlete is given the down command. athlete will then lower the bar back down in a controlled manner. once the bar is back on the ground the athlete can then begin their next rep. they will continue to deadlift for reps until the time limit is reached.
Good Lift: Athlete must lift the barbell to a standing position with head up, shoulders back, legs and feet in line. Once the "DOWN" signal is given for the lift, the athlete must return the bar to the floor under control. Dropping the bar will result in a “No lift.”

EVENT 4: Sandbag Walk
60 second time limit. Athlete will start in front of the sandbag. On the command GO. the athlete will pick up the sandbag *must be carried in front of athlete, not shouldered or held above head* and began to carry the sandbag to the opposite sideline, Athlete & sandbag must go around the opposite sideline cone before the Athlete can begin going back in the opposite direction. Same must be completed if Athlete reaches the opposite sideline again. Athlete keeps going until time runs out and distance will be measured. Athletes will also not be allowed to rest the sandbag in anyway. example: stopping in sitting down and resting the sandbag on your legs for a period of time and then starting again.
