Competitor Event Information Scottish Strongman
Admission / Parking: Parking is at the yellow gate for competitors. As a competitor you will be able to enter the highland games on Sunday for free since you will be competing We will have a member of AOI with your name on a list and your entrance ticket if you have not received Prior to Sunday. Any issues call 907-687-5522. Family, friends, or spectators will have to pay to enter the highland games.
Tickets: As a competitor you get to enter Sunday June 29th for free as stated above. if you are able to weigh in the day before we will be able to give you your ticket for Sunday. If you are not able to weigh in the day before we will have a person standing at the front of purple gate wearing a competition shirt so you can enter for free on Sunday. Event location: If you haven’t been to the highland games before. It is held at the Alaska State Fairgrounds in Palmer Alaska. It will be held at the Scottish strength field.

Enter time: The Highland games are over two days Saturday & Sunday. Both days the purple gate opens at 8am. The Scottish strongman is held on Sunday June 30 at 10am.
Weigh ins:
Saturday June 29 at Anchor of iron gym from 4pm-7pm
Sunday June 30 day of competition at 9am, do not wait to till a few minutes before 10am to weigh in. if your not weighed in before 10am we will not wait for you.

*Registrations received AFTER MAY 29th are NOT guaranteed a competition shirt with their name on the back. Dropping out of the competition does not guarantee you receive a shirt as we will prioritize competing athletes FIRST.
Events & Rules:
Start time: Rules briefing will start at 10am.
Event 1: Circus Dumbbell for reps
60 second time limit. Athlete will start standing in front of dumbbell. On the GO command the athlete can then began to clean & press the dumbbell for as many reps as possible before time runs out. Athlete must clean & press the dumbbell each time for a rep to count. Thew dumbbell must touch the ground before the athlete begins to clean & press the dumbbell again.
A Good lift: Athlete must clean & press the dumbbell fully above head with arm and legs locked. While showing control. Once the signal is given for a good lift the athlete must return the dumbbell to the floor under control. Dropping the dumbbell will result in a “NO Lift” (unless the athlete is clearly bailing from an attempt)
Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Knee sleeves, Knee Wraps, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Elbow wraps, Belts, Built up belt (one soft belt & one hard belt), Grip shirts
Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky or Towel Tacky, Supportive suits, straps of any kind
EVENT 2: Crucifix Carry (also known as Iron Cross, Magnusson or Barry Carry)
60 second time limit. Athletes will start with Crucifix Carry in the standing position with hands off. On the command go, athlete will lift it with your arms under the cross member. It must be carried in front of your body. at no point in time during the event can any part of the Crucifix be supported or carried over the shoulder. At no time can it be carried or picked from the bottom of the Crucifix. ***NO DROPS (TBD)***. Athlete must go around each cone before returning in the opposite direction.
Time stops when the 60 second time limit is reached, or athlete drops the Crucifix. At that point we will measure the distance covered.
Further distance wins.

Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky or Towel Tacky, Supportive suits, built up belts
EVENT 3: Deadlift for reps
60 second time limit. Athletes can start hands on the bar on the command "GO", athlete will start deadlifting the first rep once the athlete is given the down command. athlete will then lower the bar back down in a controlled manner. once the bar is back on the ground the athlete can then begin their next rep. they will continue to deadlift for reps until the time limit is reached.
Style of deadlift: TBD
Good Lift: Athlete must lift the barbell to a standing position with head up, shoulders back, legs and feet in line. Once the "DOWN" signal is given for the lift, the athlete must return the bar to the floor under control. Dropping the bar will result in a “No lift.”
Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Knee sleeves, Knee Wraps, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Elbow wraps, Belts, Built up belt (one soft belt & one hard belt), straps, figure 8 straps
Equipment NOT Allowed: Tacky or Towel Tacky, Supportive suits,
Event 4: Sandbag – Sandbag – Wheelbarrow
Distance: TBD
60 second time limit. Athletes must complete the events in the proper order: Sandbag 1, Sandbag 2, and wheelbarrow. Athletes will start standing in front of the implement. On the command GO the athlete will pick up the first sandbag carry it down to the opposite sideline once across the line the athlete will load the sandbag into the wheelbarrow. Then run back to grab the second sandbag and carry it back to the opposite sideline once fully across can drop the sandbag into the wheelbarrow. Then can pick up the wheelbarrow and head back to the starting line. Once the whole wheelbarrow crosses the starting line time will be stopped. Athletes must carry the sandbags in front and not shouldered. Each implement must cross the line before moving to the next.
There will be drops allowed of the sandbags & wheelbarrow. If at any point athlete can not continue or allowed time runs out your distance will be recorded.
note: you will not actually carry the wheelbarrow, you will use the wheelbarrow just like you would if you were doing yard work there will just be weight in the bucket
