Beer Muscles 7

by Cerberus Strength and Power Plant Gym

***THE ORIGINAL Beer-Themed Strongman Competition held ON SITE at an operational brewery!***

Join us at 2SP Brewing Company for the 7th year lifting heavy things, eating yummy food, drinking tasty craft beer, and raising money for Delaware County Special Olympics.

Returning competitors know we always deliver some unique custom events, like last year's Giant Corn Hole (which was featured on FOX News). This year's event features a strongman-style "Beer Run," PA state records up for grabs on the Cerberus Sandbag Load, and more!

We are strictly capped at 125 athletes, and there will be NO WAITLIST this year, so grab your spot early!

This is a Strongman Corporation sanctioned event. Qualifications will be available for 2023 Nationals and 2024 Regionals. Qualifications are based on the number of competitors in each class on competition day. ALL COMPETITORS are required to have an active Strongman Corporation membership to compete. You can purchase your membership here, on the Strongman Corporation website.

As part of our fundraising efforts for the Special Olympics team, we have a dunk tank (!!!) and hold a raffle of cool items on competition day. Last year's raffle included lifting equipment, Philly sports tickets and memorabilia (signed helmets WHAT?!), admission to local attractions, loads of restaurant gift certificates, and more!

***All of the proceeds from raffle ticket sales go directly to the Delaware County Special Olympics Powerlifting Team to help them fund equipment, competition, and travel for their athletes! ***

The event is free for spectators! No advance ticket purchase is required. Bring everyone! We recommend bringing an ID if you plan to drink, and some cash if you'd like to buy raffle tickets or donate to the fundraiser.

Event Descriptions

  1. Circus Dumbbell (reps): Athlete will start with hands off the bell and have 60 seconds to clean and press a circus dumbbell as many times as possible. There will be a red Titan pad on the ground. Between every rep, at least some part of the bell needs to touch the actual ground, not just the pad. A "down" command will be given when the bell is locked out overhead with feet on a straight line. The bell must be controlled back to the ground. Women and teens will use an 8" bell with 2" handle. Men will use a 10" bell with 2.5" handle. Equipment Allowed: Belt, wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, and chalk (liquid or powder). Not Allowed: grip shirt, gloves, anything sticky.
  2. 13" Stiff Bar Deadlift with "trump" Bar (reps):  Athlete will have 60 seconds to complete as many reps as possible on a 13" deadlift. There will be 2 bars to choose from: a heavier bar and a lighter bar. Any reps on the heavier bar will "trump" any reps on the lighter bar. (For example, if Athlete A does 1 rep on the heavier bar, and Athlete B does 10 reps on the lighter bar, Athlete A wins.) Athlete may start with either bar, HOWEVER, once you touch the lighter bar, you may NOT switch to the heavy bar. Athlete will start behind the bar and must strap in on their own time (i.e. after "3-2-1-Go"). Athlete will receive a "down" command when knees and hips are locked out. There are no "up" commands, but you may NOT bounce the bar to gain an advantage (a no-rep will be given). The bar must be in the hands at lockout (i.e. not just hanging from your straps). We'll be using a Rogue Westside barbell (stiff-ish with pretty aggressive knurl) and Rogue "26'er" 70lbs bumper plates. Some kind of foot covering must be worn (no naked toesies here!) - socks are fine, shoes are preferred. Equipment Allowed: Belts (hard and soft), straps (including figure-8), knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, chalk (liquid or powder), and baby powder (with must be applied a designated area ONLY, not on the competition floor). Not Allowed: no suits, briefs, or knee wraps (anything considered "geared" in "geared" powerlifting); no oil or anything weird on your legs; no hooks, no tacky.
  3. Conan's Wheel (distance): Athlete will carry a Conan's Wheel implement as far as possible with no time limit. The implement must be carried in front of the body, and may NOT rest on a belt or on the top of the shoulders. The athlete must carry counterclockwise. The athlete will receive a 3-foot "grace" zone (marked with cones) in which to reset if needed at the start of the attempt. Once any part of the athlete's foot steps out of the "grace" zone, the attempt will count and cannot be reset. The attempt ends when ANY part of the implement touches the ground. There are NO exceptions to this rule. Note that weights listed are in addition to the implement. We don't have "weight in hand" (and this is not a 1:1 equivalent to a Zercher carry). Implement height will be set based on the shortest competitor in your group, not for each athlete individually. Equipment Allowed: Belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, and chalk (liquid or powder). Not Allowed: No gloves, no grip shirts, nothing sticky, no suits/briefs.
  4. "Beer Run" Frame Carry (time): Athlete will carry a "frame" (16" pick height, 33" wide between handles) 50ft down and back with a set-down and re-pick at 50ft. The fastest time wins. Time will be capped at 60 seconds with distances measured for an incomplete carry. The implement will start fully behind the start line with athlete's hands off the handles. The front of the implement needs to cross the 50ft line before the set-down and re-pick, and time will stop when the front of the implement crosses the finish line. Drops from the top are strictly prohibited and will result in a 0 for the event (unless it's an obvious grip issue, which is different)... just respect the equipment, please. Sliding is not permitted to move the implement or get across the line. Forward progress can only be made with all 4 corners of the implement fully off the ground. Slides over the line will result in a 5-second slide penalty for each offense at judges' discretion. Equipment Allowed: Belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, and chalk (liquid or powder). Not Allowed: NO STRAPS or grip assistants of any kind, no gloves, no suits/briefs, nothing sticky.
  5. Cerberus Sandbag Load (max): Athlete will load a Cerberus sandbag over a bar for max weight. We will be setting the very first PA State Records on this event! Athlete will have a max of 30 seconds for each attempt. We'll use modified "last man standing" rules. Athlete can jump in at any weight, can take an unlimited number of attempts, and does not need to take every attempt. If you miss, you're done.  Ties will go to the person who started at the heavier weight. For example, if Athlete A comes in at 100lbs and Athlete B comes in at 150lbs and both athletes finish at 250lbs, Athlete B will win because they started at a heavier weight. Sandbag weights start at 100lbs and go up to 400lbs in 25lb increments. The sandbag will start on its side, parallel to the bar. Loading will be over a Rogue Y-1 Yoke. Heights will be 44" for women and teens; 48" for Novice175 Men, Novice200 Men, and Novice231 Men; and 52" for all other classes. Equipment Allowed: belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, chalk (liquid or powder), gloves (as long as there is nothing sticky on them). Not Allowed: no grip shirts, no suits/briefs, no tacky, nothing sticky allowed.

Weights will be posted as we test them. If they're not listed here, we don't have them finalized yet, and sending us an email won't get you any additional info on weights. If you need clarity on any of the rules/standards, check the Facebook Event Page first, then shoot us an email at info@thepowerplantgym.com.
