2024 Bull of Desert Strongman Competition

The Bull of the Desert will be taking place on February 17th, 2024 in Yuma, Arizona. The event will be taking place on Marine Corps Air Station.
All Competitors and Guests must submit their full government name and date of birth if you plan on attending for easier check in thru the marine base. This will allow MCAS to screen guests prior to the contest. Please email the information of everyone in your party who plans on attending to info@caballeros.org.
WEIGH IN DATE / TIME AND LOCATION:
Feb. 16th, 2024:
12:00 PM to 8:00 PM Caballeros de Yuma Office
(180 W. 1st Street, Suite C - Yuma, AZ 85364) Use East Entrance.
Feb. 17th, 2024:
6:30 AM to 8:00 AM. Marine Corps Air Station - Yuma, Arizona
SEQUENCE OF EVENTS:
TBD - Will depend on final number of competitors.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION:
An awards and recognition ceremony will take place once all scores have been counted by the judges and scorekeepers.
AUTHORIZED GEAR:
- Lifting belts, maximum of 4 inches. (Soft belts over 4 inches upon approval)
- Knee Wraps / Sleeves
- Elbow Wraps / Sleeves
- Forearm Braces / Sleeves
- Wrist Wraps and Supports
- Grip Shirts (Atlas Stones Only)
- Tack (Atlas Stones Only)
- Gloves (Aircraft Pull Only)
PROHIBITED GEAR:
- Belts wider than 4 inches
- Deadlift Suits
- Squat Suits
- Bench Press Shirts
- Slingshot Gear
- Any form of gear designed to mimic the above mentioned gear
OBJECT SHUTTLE: (Brian)
- This is going to be a multiple leg object shuttle using military gear. The gear will be transporting both a keg and sea bag to a staged area, and pulling it to a finish line, for time.
VIKING PRESS: (Travis)
- The apparatus will be adjusted for the competitor’s heights prior to starting the lift. Competitors will will press for maximum repetitions for a duration of 60 seconds.
- A good lift shall consist of the apparatus being pressed overhead with the arms and legs being locked out at the top. The downward position of the repetition does not need to return to the ground, however, it must at the bottom of the lifting range with the elbows being at 45 degrees (parallel to the ground). Spring (Bounce) from the bottom of the repetition using the legs will be allowed as long as the feet remain in place. Split stance, moving the feet or failing to get back into the 45-degree position prior to each repetition will not be counted.
- You may step away from the apparatus and restart one time during the 60 seconds. The 2nd time the apparatus returns to the ground, the lift is over. Inadvertent bumps will not be counted as returned to the ground.
- Tie breaker will go to lighter competitor.
- Due to the location of the weights, the overall weight reduces as lifted.
Wagonwheel Deadlift: (Robert)
- Competitors will deadlift the weight targed by division.
- Competitors must fully complete the lift with legs fully extended and shoulders back.
- Competitors will have 60 seconds to conduct as many reps as possible.
- Competitor may release the apparatus as many times as needed during the 60 second time limit.
VEHICLE/AIRCRAFT PULL: (Junior)
The event is currently being worked on. As of now, competitors will be pulling military aircraft and vehicles (Cobra Helicopter and loaded JLTV) other vehicles associated with their weight class. TRAIN HEAVY!!!
ATLAS STONES: (Dennis)
- Competitors will start behind the staged series of atlas stones.
- Once given the command to go, the competitors will have 90 seconds to lift and set 4 stones onto their corresponding tower.
- Only stones that have been properly placed on the designated tower will count as completed.
- Tie breaker will go to lighter competitor.
