CENTRAL MAINE STRONGMAN is BACK for its 15th Annual Competition here in Augusta, Maine! We are wildly ecstatic to have the opportunity, once again, to Welcome the undeniably ELECTRIC Strongman Community to GEvolution Fitness! We must say there is NOTHING quite like this amazingly supportive, energetic and HARD-TRAINING, dedicated crew of athletes! We look forward to celebrating all feats of strength, endurance and speed with you all!

CMS 15 EVENT DETAILS. 

USS MEMBERSHIP

All athletes are required to have a current United States Strongman (USS) membership to compete. Please don't wait until the last minute to purchase or renew your membership. Also, if you are renewing an existing membership, PLEASE be sure to use the SAME e-mail as you did when you originally signed up for a membership. If you use a different e-mail address, it won't show up in Iron Podium when you are checked in on day of comp.

  • April 13th, 2024 @ GEvolution Fitness, in Augusta, Maine.

NOTE: (located behind the Days Inn. Brown warehouse building. Left Side of Structure. Parking available in lots or overflow lot up the block on the left. Signage will be up)

  • This is a United States Strongman Sanctioned Event.
  • Top 3 in each class qualify for the 2024 USS Nationals. (if the event has available space)
  • Weigh-ins: Friday 4/12/24. 5pm - 7pm, on-site.
  • Comp. day weigh-ins, 7:00am-8:00am.

NOTE: If athlete does not make weight during PM weigh in, additional morning weigh-in is available.

  • All competitors must be weighed in by 8:00am.
  • After 8:00am, if athlete is not officially weighed in, the athlete will NOT be able to compete.
  • 8am - Hands on implement warmups begin.
  • 8:30am - Athlete Rules Meeting.
  • Competition begins at 9:00am or at conclusion of Athlete Rules Meeting.
  • Podium ceremony at conclusion of competition. Please consider sharing in this time whether you are  on the podium or not. Awards for Top 3 in each class.

THE EVENTS:

 

CIRCUS DUMBBELL CLEAN + PRESS (MAX REPS)

  • Implement begins on floor / crash pad / tire.
  • Athlete begins with Hands OFF.
  • To begin, judge gives “Go” command.
  • Athletes are required to clean + press each rep of the CDB.
  • 60 seconds max time limit.
  • Athletes allowed to clean CDB with two hands, but supporting hand must be removed from CDB before athlete begins the press.
  • Athlete cannot rest CDB on belts. This will not count as a successful rep.
  • Judge gives a “Down” command when athlete has pressed the CDB overhead with shoulders + elbows locked out. Athlete must be in control of implement, standing straight up with squared feet.
  • Athlete must wait for “Down” command from judge for lift to be counted.
  • Once athlete receives the “Down” command, the CDB must touch the floor/crash pad/tire before athlete begins the next rep attempt.
  • The CDB cannot be dropped from the overhead position. It must be lowered under control and guided to the floor.
  • Dropping from the OHD position will result in a ZERO for the event and potentially expulsion from the competition.  Please respect the equipment.
  • If an athlete has an issue locking out their elbow, it is their responsibility to notify the judge BEFORE the event.
  • If athlete lowers the CDB before the “Down” command is given by judge, it will be a NO REP.
  • EQUIPMENT ALLOWED: One soft belt, one hard belt, knee + elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk, grip shirts. NO TACKY OF ANY KIND (jar, spray, towel, any of it) NO GLOVES. NO SUITS.

 

DESCENDING DEADLIFT (MAX REPS)

  • Texas Deadlift and Okie Deadlift bars will be used.
  • 60 seconds max time limit.
  • Bars begin at 18 inches with weights atop (5) 1.5" stacked “blocks” on either side.
  • Athlete may begin strapped in and in Go position.
  • To begin, athlete receives “Go” command from judge.
  • After each successful rep, (1) 1.5" “block” is removed on either side by competition volunteers.
  • Once athlete descends down to floor, athlete continues to pull from floor for MAX reps.
  • UP and DOWN commands will be given by judge. If athlete fails to abide by the up and down commands given by judge, it will be a NO REP.
  • NO TOUCH + GO. (The above commands ensure this)
  • EQUIPMENT ALLOWED: One soft belt, one hard belt, knee + elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, straps, chalk. Shins must be covered. NO TACKY OF ANY KIND (jar, spray, towel, any of it) NO LIFTING HOOKS. NO DEADLIFT SUITS. NO BARE FEET.

 

THE “PAIN TRAIN”

  • This is a Yoke Carry and Keg “Loading” event.
  • 60 seconds max time limit to finish a 90ft course. (30,30,30)
  • DO NOT UNDER ESTIMATE these weights + the amount of instability the water filled kegs present.
  • Athlete begins with yoke fully behind the starting line, under implement and in Go position.
  • Each yoke is fashioned with 4 “cages” on it.
  • To begin, athlete receives “Go” command from judge.
  • Athlete carries empty yoke, 30 feet. Once yoke is FULLY passed the line, athlete loads TWO full sized kegs (water filled) to diagonal sides of the yoke.
  • Athlete carries newly weighted yoke 30 feet back. Once yoke is FULLY passed the line, athlete again loads TWO full sized kegs (water filled) to other diagonal sides of yoke, filling all cages.
  • Athlete then carries fully loaded yoke passed finish line.
  • ENTIRE YOKE and ATHLETE MUST PASS LINE FOR EVERY RUN INCLUDING FINISH.
  • JUDGE will give "CLEAR" command to ensure athlete passes line.
  • EDIT: 3/15/24: NO DROPS ALLOWED ON LAST 30 FEET OF RUN. GET YOUR PICK! STICK YOUR PICK!
  • Goal? Do it in the fastest time. Can’t do it? Your distance will be measured.
  • EQUIPMENT ALLOWED: One soft belt, one hard belt, knee + elbow sleeves, knee wraps, grip shirts, wrist wraps, chalk. NO TACKY OF ANY KIND (jar, spray, towel, any of it) NO SUITS. NO GLOVES.

 

SANDBAG TO SHOULDER CARRY

  • 60 seconds max time limit.
  • 150 ft. Total Distance.
  • Goal? Do it in the fastest time. Can’t do it? Your distance will be measured.
  • All 3 sandbags begin on the ground, standing straight up at starting line.
  • Athlete begin with HANDS OFF.
  • To begin, athlete receives “Go” command from judge.
  • Sandbag must then be lifted TO shoulder before run begins. Either shoulder or alternating shoulders can be used. Shoulders can be switched mid run, but athlete must be in stop position. BAG CANNOT TOUCH GROUND.
  • Athlete runs sandbag to line, drops bag, runs back, gets the next one. This repeats until all bags and athlete FULLY cross the finish line.
  • No drops allowed UNLESS still behind the line for re-pick.
  • Once athlete is in motion, no drops.
  • EQUIPMENT ALLOWED: One soft belt, one hard belt, knee + elbow sleeves, grip shirts, wrist wraps, chalk. NO TACKY OF ANY KIND (jar, spray, towel, any of it) NO SUITS. NO GLOVES.

 

ATLAS STONE LOAD SERIES

  • 60 seconds max time limit.
  • Goal? Do it the fastest. Can’t do it? Number of stones lifted and split time will be recorded.
  • Descending load height. Ascending stone weight.
  • Stones start aligned with platform height that they will be loaded on.
  • Stones must be lifted in order from lightest to heaviest.
  • Athlete begins with HANDS OFF, however prior to start, athlete can situate stones.
  • To begin, athlete receives “Go” command from judge.
  • UPDATED 3/29/24 Platform heights are roughly 60", 56", 52", 48", 44"
  • Stone MUST be fully loaded and secured before moving to next stone. Throwing stone without securing it will result in a zero in the event.
  • EQUIPMENT ALLOWED: One soft belt, one hard belt, knee + elbow sleeves, grip shirts, wrist wraps, stone forearm wraps, equine wrap, chalk, tacky (jar, spray, towel, any of it) NO SUITS. NO GLOVES.
