Clash of Iron on the Two Rivers

$75

Carrollton, KY

Welcome to the first Clash of Iron on the Two Rivers (sorry for the cheesy strongman style naming).  I have always wanted to host since starting strongman +4 years ago but never found the right time.  With the recent major flooding in my home of Carroll County, Kentucky, I felt like now is the right time!  This comp will also be a fundraiser to help victims of the flood.  I will update this with sponsors and the weight matrix as soon as possible!  Any questions please do not hesitate to get ahold of me (social media or email is your best bet cause I am awful at answering phone calls).

Hotels and Lodging

There are some main chain hotels in Carrollton but I highly recommend checking out Butler State park, which includes a campground and cabins, or the Belterra Casino and Resort across the River in Switzerland County, Indiana!  Also recommend checking out some of the local restaurants!  You do not want to miss out on the crown jewel of Carrollton, KY, known as Mi Viejo!  It has an incredible lunch buffet (looking at you my fellow SHWs)

Weigh In

I will be at Highland Fitness on Friday the 17th of October from 11am till 6pm.  If you are coming in late do not hesitate to reach out to me and I can probably work something out!  if you cannot make the 17th you must be at the venue before 9am to weigh in.  If you miss weight you will compete up in the next class!

Venue

As of right now this will be hosted at Highland Fitness.  The venue may change but it will be no more than 5 miles away from the original one.  Weather permitting it will be outside but if need be it can be pushed in doors.  Please bring your own seating!  There will be sponsors set up at the venue as well.  Spectators will be free but we be taking up donations for the victims of the flood as well!  Anything is appreciated!

Events Description

Log Press For Reps

This will be clean and press away.  60 seconds.  You are allowed to drop the log and clean it again.  Dropping the log behind your head will end your lift.  Log must be dropped back onto pads or lift will be ended (I’d prefer you show control but I understand the hype that usually follows a good log press but also please don’t slam it against the unpadded ground!)  It will be a little heavier than normal due to only cleaning the log once.  Head through, locked out elbows and evening your feet will all be enforced unless you notify the judge beforehand of any discrepancies in your lockout!  Open Men and Novice SHW men classes will be using a 12 Inch Rogue log.  Teens, Women and novice lightweight men will be using a 10 Inch Rogue log.

Equipment Allowed

Belts (soft belt and regular belt combo allowed), wrist wraps, elbows sleeve, elbow wraps, knees sleeves, grip shirts, chalk (if indoors there will be a designated chalk area)

Equipment not allowed

Tacky… which if you train with on log you are a lunatic.  No doubling up on sleeves.  No gloves.

Max Distance Sandbag Carry

You will have 60 seconds to carry a sandbag as far as you can!  The course will be about 50 feet.  You will have to turn and continue your run.  There will be a line at both ends to signal when you can turn.  If you do not cross this line you will have to go back and cross it with the sandbag to continue your measurable distance.  Belt buckles must be turned to the side or back for any sandbag event!

Equipment Allowed

Chalk, grip shirts, soft and hard belt combo allowed (you must face the hard belt buckle to the side or back!), sleeves of any kind.

Equipment Not Allowed

Tacky and gloves

Max 18 Inch Deadlift

3 attempts.  Depending on amount of athletes, this may be a rising bar setup.  If not we will cycle through everybody’s lifts from lightest to heaviest for each attempt.  Openers will needed to be put in at weigh ins but may be adjusted before the start of this event.  If you fail attempts one or two you may try the failed weight again but you will not be allowed to go down!  You will have 60 seconds to start your deadlift and if the plates have left the floor at that mark you may continue the lift.  You are allowed to deadlift in socks but please bring slides or some other form of easy to slide on footwear to wear off the platform.  No barefoot lifting! (It is gross y’all).  If any bodily fluids happen we will stop the flight and clean the bar and platform.  Rogue Ohio Deadlift bars will be used.  This will be off 18 inch platforms.

Equipment allowed

Straps of any kind, soft and hard belts (combo allowed), chalk and baby powder.

Equipment Not Allowed

Suits, briefs or tacky

Sandbag Medley

You will start by pressing a sandbag, then shouldering a sandbag and then loading a sandbag over bar.  Fastest time wins.  60 second time limit.  Same standard for log press on the press.  Non shouldering arm must be out and control must be shown on the shouldering!  Load height for women and teens will be 48 Inches.  Load height for men will be 52 inches.  Belt buckles must be turned to the side or back for any sandbag event!

Equipment Allowed

Sleeves, chalk, grip shirt, soft and hard belts (including combo of both)

Equipment Not Allowed

Tacky or gloves

Last Man Standing Atlas Stone Over Bar

This is going to be a brutal one.  The classes will be reorganized by order of last to first.  In order, the athlete will lift the stone over bar.  48 inches for women and teens classes, 52 inches for all men classes.  Next athlete in order will then return the stone.  There will be a 30 second time limit to return the stone.  If the stone is not lifted over the bar in that time frame the athlete will fail the lift and hop out of the line.  This will continue until the last athlete is left.  This will be scored based off of reps (so if you and another athlete drop out at the same amount of reps, you will tie).  The athlete who is last to drop out will be allowed an additional rep in that time frame if needed to take first in the event.  Tacky must be removed and cleaned in the designated area that will be shown before this event!  If you are caught in any area outside of this removing tacky (especially the bathroom sink) you will be disqualified from the whole event!

Equipment Allowed

Tacky, chalk, sleeves and grip shirts

Equipment Not Allowed

Gloves

Tie Breaker

Tug of war, old fashion strongman style!
