Hear ye, hear ye!
Attention all strong pirates, scallywags, saucy wenches, krakens, swole mermaids and beasts of the depths! Come test your mettle at Rum Runners' Clash of the Krakens!
On June 14th, 2025 in Trenton Maine, we will find out who the strongest swashbucklers are with incredible feats of strength and unfathomable tests of will in a pirate-themed competition on the coast! Do you have what it takes to be the beast of Frenchman's Bay?
This competition will be hosted by a seafood restaurant and bar. All athletes will be given a 20% discount on meals. Pirate attire is strongly encouraged! Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in every weight class!
This is a United States Strongman sanctioned competition. All athletes must have USS membership to compete.
Weigh in will start at 7 AM the morning of the competition. All contestants must be weighed in by 9 AM. Rules meeting will start at 9 AM. Lifting will start at 10 AM.
Max barrel deadlift rules:
This is a last man standing event. Athlete will have 30 seconds to complete each lift. Weight will increase by 50lbs for men and 30 for women. Belts (hard and soft), straps, chalk, and wrist wraps allowed. No sumo stance allowed. No deadlift suits. No tacky or any other sticky stuff. No dropping the weight. Dropping the weight from the top of the lift will result in a failed lift.
Keg clean and press rules:
Athlete will have 60 seconds to press a keg overhead as many times as possible. Athlete will be asked if they are ready and time will begin as soon as the go command is given. Athlete may have hands on the keg before time starts. Keg must be cleaned and pressed every rep. Staggered grip allowed. Athlete must control the keg all the way down. Dropping keg from overhead will result in a zero for the event. Wrist wraps, soft and hard belt, elbow sleeves, and chalk allowed. No straps or tacky allowed.
Treasure chest carry rules:
Athlete will have 60 seconds to carry a treasure chest for max distance. Treasure chest must be carried by the handles. Athlete will start with the implement behind the starting line and asked when ready. Athlete may not touch the chest until the go command has been given. Time will start on the go command. Athlete will carry the chest down and back a 40 ft distance until time runs out. One drop allowed. If athlete drops the chest a second time, the run is finished.
Mermaid boat pull rules:
Athlete will start in a standing or seated position with hands on the rope. On the go command, athlete must go to a seated position and pull the boat for a distance of 40 feet. Athlete will have 60 seconds to complete the pull. If athlete is unable to complete the pull, distance will be measured for scoring.
Cannonball throw rules:
This is a shot put style throw for distance. Each athlete will be given three attempts and the best distance will be used for score. Wrist wraps and chalk allowed.
