The IMG Academy Ascenders will challenge the East St. Louis Flyers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with IMG Academy sitting on eight straight wins dating back to last season and East St. Louis on five.

On Friday, IMG Academy didn't have too much trouble with Varsity Opponent as they won 41-24.

Meanwhile, East St. Louis was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past O'Fallon 48-6. Considering the Flyers have won five games by more than 41 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

East St. Louis' win came from a few key players IMG Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Reece Shanklin, who threw for 337 yards while completing 84.6% of his passes. What's more, he racked up 124.7 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Kortez Rupert was Shanklin's top target, picking up 58 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something East St. Louis proved: they limited O'Fallon to a paltry 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Caleb Brown for the heroic effort on defense: he. East St. Louis hasn't allowed more than 8.5 yards per carry in three consecutive contests.

East St. Louis didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Raheem Floyd and Dakarai Weaver. Floyd is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last five games he's played. East St. Louis got some further help from Brown: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (3.0 for loss).

IMG Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for East St. Louis, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

IMG Academy won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in October of 2024, slipping by East St. Louis 14-13. Do the Ascenders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Flyers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
