Events

Max Clean & Log Press - Slater True Log

Overview

Athletes will attempt to clean and press the log implement for a maximum weight. This event will follow Wessels Rule and use a rising bar format. Each athlete will be allowed three (3) attempts to successfully complete a maximum log clean and press.

Event Format

  • Athletes will have three (3) attempts to establish their max clean and press
  • The event will us a rising bar format: athletes may choose which weight to enter at but many not go back down in weight.
  • Wessels Rule will be in effect: if an athlete misses an attempt at any point, they are eliminated and may not continue.
  • Athletes will have 30 seconds to complete each attempt once called to the platform.
  • Athletes may use any press variation, including strict press, push press, viper press, push jerk, or split jerk.
  • Judge's Commands:
    • The judge will initiate each attempt with the verbal cue: "Competitor ready... Go" accompanied by a raised hand.
    • A successful lift must be held at lockout until the judge gives the "Down" command, paired with the judge's hand motion lowering from overhead.

Standards for a Good Lift

A successful lift will be awarded only if all of the following criteria are met:

  1. Full elbow lockout at the top of the press.
  2. Feet are completely still and flat at lockout (i.e. need a moment in time where the athlete isn't stepping or shifting after the press).
  3. The athlete's head must come through at lockout, indicating full extension.
  4. The log must not make contact with the head. If the log is placed or rests on the head at any point during the lift, the rep will not be allowed.
  5. Athlete must demonstrate control at the top.
    • Control is defined at the athlete demonstrating balance and stability with the log motionless overhead and no further foot movement before receiving the down command.
  6. Athlete must wait for the down command from the judge before lowering the log.
  7. The Log must be lowered under control. Throwing or recklessly dropping the log will result in a no-lift and may result in disqualification from the event at the judge's discretion

If any of the above standards are not met, the lift will be ruled a no lift.

Implements and Progression

  • Men: will use a 12" steel log until the weight reaches 185lbs. At or above 185lbs, the implement will change to the 12" Slater True Log.
  • Women: will use a combination of the 10" and 12" steel logs. At 185 lbs, the implement will switch to the 12" Slater True Log. A lighter-weight Slater log may be added for women if available before the event.

Yoke-to-Slater Farmer's Carry Medley

Athletes will carry a yoke 50"G feet down a marked course, then carry a pair of Slater Wooden Farmer's Handles back 50 feet. The fastest time to complete the full 100 ft wins. If the athlete does not finish within the 60-second time cap, total distance covered will be used for scoring.

Event Format

  • Athlete may take their grip on the yoke before time starts
  • The judge will give the verbal command: Competitor ready... Go." Timer starts on "Go."
  • Athlete will carry the yoke 50 feet down the course.
  • The front edge of the yoke must clearly cross the 50 ft line to count as complete.
  • Upon completion, the judge will issue a "Good" command before the athlete proceeds to the Farmer's handles.
  • Athlete will then pick up and carry the Farmer's Handles 50 feet back to the starting line/
  • the front of both handles must clearly cross the start/finish line to stop the clock.
  • Athletes may drop and reset the implements as needed during their carry.
  • The time cap is 60 seconds. If the full distance is not completed, the score will be the total distance moved across both carries, measured to the nearest foot.

Standards for Valid Run

  1. Yoke must be carried (not slid); only the front of the yoke must cross the line.
  2. Famer's handles must be carried, not dragged or thrown. The front of both handles must cross the line.
  3. Implements must be placed down under control - do not throw the Farmer's Handles
  4. Sliding the yoke is not permitted. If the judge determines that the athlete intentionally slid the yoke, a time penalty may be assessed.

Allowed Equipment

Hard belt, Soft belt, Strongman warm pants, Knee Sleeves, Elbow Sleeves, Knee wraps, Wrist wraps, Lifting shoes, Grip shirt, Chalk (dry only, no liquid chalk)

Prohibited Equipment

Cerberus Sandbag Toss Series

Athletes will throw three Cerberus throwing sandbags of increasing weight over a 13-foot bar for time. The bags will be pre-lined in front of the athlete, who may arrange them in any order before the start. Athletes may use any throwing style they prefer. The fasting time to successfully throw all three bags over the bar wins. If all three bags are not completed within the 60-second time cap, the athlete will be scored based on number of bags completed and split times.

Event Format

  • Athlete begins with one hand touching the yoke they are throwing over.
  • Sandbags will be pre-positioned in front of the athlete; may be reordered as the athlete sees fit before the start.
  • The judge will initiate the attempt with the verbal cue: "Competitor ready... Go" - timer starts on "Go."
  • Athlete may throw bags in any order with any technique.
  • A throw is considered successful when the entire bag passes over the bar, regardless of whether it touches the bar on the way over.
  • Bags many not pass under the bar; under-bar throws are not valid.
  • If a throw attempt fails (does not clear the bar), the athlete must retrieve the same bag, return it to the original side of the bar, and attempt again.
  • Athlete has 60 seconds to complete all three throws.
  • If time expires, split times for each successfully completed bag will be recorded and used for scoring.

Allowed Equipment

Hard belt, Soft belt, Strongman warm pants, Knee sleeves, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Lifting shoes, Chalk

Prohibited Equipment

Straps of any kind, NO TACKY OR ANY ADHESIVE SUBSTANCE

Max Keg Over Bar

Athletes will attempt to load a weighted keg over a 48-inch bar for a maximum weight. This event will use an auctioneer-style rising bar format. Athletes may choose when to enter, but once they begin attempting lifts, they may not skip weights or drop back down. The heaviest successfully lifted key will count as the athlete's score.

Event Format

  • Athletes may enter the event at any weight increment, but once they complete a successful lift, they must attempt every subsequent weight.
  • If an athlete misses an attempt, they are eliminated from the event, and their last successful lift will be recorded as their score.
  • Keg weights will start at 50 lbs and will increase in 50-lb increments until all but one athlete is eliminated or no one successfully completes the next jump.
  • When an athlete is ready to attempt a weight, they must approach the lifting area, stat their name to the judge, and place both hands on the yoke crossbar.
  • The judge will initiate the lift with the cue: "Competitor ready... Go" - the timer begins on "Go"
  • The athlete will have 30 seconds to load the keg over the 48" bar using any technique they choose.
  • A valid lift is one in which the keg passes completely over the bar, regardless of whether it touches the bar on the way over.

Standards for a Good Lift

  1. The keg must be lifted and go completely over the 48-inch bar.
  2. The athlete must maintain control of the keg during the lift
    • "Control" in this event means the keg is not deliberately slammed, or launched recklessly
  3. Athletes may not use the bare to assist in the load, such as grabbing the bar, trapping the keg between the bar and their body, and forcing the keg over.
  4. The keg may hit the bar when loading, as long as it successfully clears it.
  5. The athlete will release the keg once it is over the bar but must do so with reasonable control and without endangering spotters or equipment.

Scoring Format

  • Athletes will be ranked base on their heaviest successful keg lifted.
  • In the even of a tie (multiple athlete fail the same weight), the tie will be broken based on fewest total attempts taken to reach the top lift.

Allowed Equipment

Hard belt, Soft belt, Strongman warm pants, Knee sleeves, Elbow sleeves, Wrist wraps, Lifting shoes, Grip shirt, Chalk

Prohibited Equipment

Straps of any kind, NO TACKY OR ANY ADHESIVE SUBSTANCE

Car Deadlift for Reps

Athletes will have 60 seconds to complete as many deadlift repetitions as possible using a frame-style car deadlift apparatus with side handles. Each repetition must be performed to full lockout and will be judged for proper form and command adherence. The athlete with the most valid reps at the end of the time limit wins.

Event Format

  • Athletes may use either figure 8, figure 6 or Versa Grips
  • Before the timer begins, the athlete will be permitted to strap in to the handles of the car deadlift frame.
  • The judge will initiate the event with the verbal cue: "Competitor ready... Go" - the timer begins on "Go"
  • Each repetition must be lifted to full lockout and held until the judge gives a "Down command (paired with a hand motion)
  • Following the first rep and all subsequent reps, the athlete must wait for the judge's "Up" command before starting each repetition
    • This ensures each lift starts from a dead stop - no bouncing or touch-and-go reps.
  • The athlete may perform as many valid repetitions as possible within the 60-second time limit.

Standards for a Good Rep

  1. Full lockout of the knees, hips, and shoulders - athlete must be standing tall.
  2. Athlete must wait for the "Up" command from the judger before initiating each rep.
  3. Athlete must wait for the "Down" command to complete the rep.
    • Reps performed without either command will not be counted.
  4. Hitching is allowed, but soft knees, incomplete lockouts, or leaning finishes will be disqualified.
  5. Touch-and-go reps are not allowed. The frame must settle between each repetition.

Scoring Format

  • Athlete will be ranked based on the total number of valid repetitions completed in 60 seconds.
  • in the event of a tie, athletes will share placing - no time-based tiebreakers will be used.
