Mater Dei is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: Servite, who was ranked sixth in their home state at the time (Mater Dei was ranked first). Mater Dei was the clear victor by a 28-6 margin over Servite on Friday. That's two games straight that the Monarchs have won by exactly 22 points.

Dash Beierly was a one-man wrecking crew for Mater Dei as he threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns while completing 86.4% of his passes. Mater Dei also got a significant boost from Jordon Davison, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

Meanwhile, JSerra Catholic started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Orange Lutheran. They fell to the Lancers 23-17. While the Lions didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lancers 7-0 in the first quarter.

Mater Dei's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for JSerra Catholic, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2.

Everything came up roses for Mater Dei against JSerra Catholic in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, as the team secured a 38-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mater Dei since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
