United States Strongman sanctions this event. All athletes are required to purchase their USS membership before competing. You can purchase your membership HERE

New for United States Strongman!! This will be the debut event for United States Strongman to acknowledge and record National Atlas Stone Records. For USS Atlas Stone record standards click HERE

Format:

  • The athlete order for the first event is determined by the registration date. Athlete order will follow the lightest weight attempted to the heaviest weight attempted for max events by lane.
  • All proceeds go back to the athletes—cash Prizes for all open and master classes.
  • United States Strongman-sanctioned event. National Qualifier-Top 3 athletes in each division or class will qualify for 2025 Nationals.
  • Five-event contest.
  • Athletes must complete lifts in at least 3 events to qualify for state record attempts.
  • An athlete will receive a zero score for any skipped events.
  • Max Monsters reserves the right to combine weight classes to ensure meaningful competition.
  • Weigh classes with fewer than 4 athletes by April 1st will be combined in their division (LW, MW, HW, SHW).
  • USS rules apply to qualify for nationals.
  • If weight classes are combined, you may still make state record attempts for your actual weight class. You MUST weigh in for me to acknowledge your record lift.

Athlete Accommodations:

  • 1 Free meal will be catered in from a local BBQ place.
  • Athlete shirts will have your last name or chosen nickname on the back of all comp shirts.

Important dates/times:

  • Weigh-ins – April 18th and 19th (see below)
  • Sign-up deadline – April 4th, 2025
  • Deadline to purchase additional competition T-shirt – April 4th
  • Competition date – April 19th
  • Rules meeting – 9:00 am sharp on April 19th
  • Warmups begin – 9:30 am or when the rules meeting ends
  • Event 1 begins  – 10:00 am sharp April 19th

Weigh-in / Check-in Process:

  • April 18th, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm at Premier Fitness, Appleton
  • April 18th, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Premier Fitness, Appleton
  • April 19th, 7:00 am – 8:00 am at Premier Fitness, Appleton
  • No remote weigh-ins are allowed.
  • Athletes must be wearing undergarments when weighing in.
  • All Athletes MUST check in on the day of the competition regardless of weigh-in status. Do this at the scoring table as you arrive.

Parking:

  • Parking is allowed at Premier Fitness only. Additional parking access will be communicated prior to the event.
  • Respect “no parking” signs when applicable.

Hotel Information:

Event Shirts: 

  • Athletes will be given event shirts with individual names and are asked to wear them during competition except for atlas stones. No Grip shirts are allowed unless worn under a comp T-shirt. We do this to support our sponsors.
  • Additional T-shirts are available for purchase. Email meet director or contact via Instagram.
  • Extra shirts are sometimes available at the contest. See the scoring table for information.

Social Media:

  • Tag us in your training videos to be featured.

Spectators & Coaches: 

  • There will be a door fee of $10 for non-athlete attendees. This includes your coach (all proceeds go back to athletes).
  • Children of athletes may attend for FREE regardless of age.
  • Children under 18 may attend at no cost when accompanied by an adult.
  • No spectators are allowed in the warm-up area.
  • Coaches are allowed in the warm-up area with a wristband.
  • No Coaches or spectators are allowed on the competition floor.
  • The venue has room for 60 chairs. Last year we filled up the entire back room. Pre-purchasing tickets will reserve you a chair starting in the front row.

Code of Conduct: 

  • By registering to compete, you and your coach agree to the United States Strongman Code of Conduct
  • Zero tolerance for bullying, discrimination, or harassment to any athlete, coach, spectator, volunteer, judge, vendor, etc. You will be asked to leave and banned from any future competitions promoted by Kevin Prothero.

Event 1 Log Clean and Press for Reps (with "Trump" Log)

  • Athletes will choose between a light log and a heavy log.
  • Clean and Press EACH REP
  • Any amount of reps on the heavier log will trump any amount of reps on the lighter log.
  • You may move to the lighter log if you fail to complete a rep at the heavier log.
  • 90-second time limit.
  • Athletes will start standing by the log they intend to begin with. They will follow the referee's commands from there. "Competitor ready? Take your Grip, Lift".
  • Down command will be given when lockout is achieved, with feet in line.
  • No resting log on the head.
  • The athlete with the most reps on the heaviest log lifted within a division wins.
  • Gear allowed: Knee sleeves (no knee wraps), 1 soft belt, 1 hard belt, elbow sleeves (one pair only, no elbow wraps), wrist wraps, chalk, liquid chalk, neoprene shorts, neoprene calf support. No barefoot lifting. No tacky substance of any kind, no tacky towels. No spray tacky. No built-up belts that aid in cleaning the logs.
  • Metal belt buckles need to be turned to the side or rear on wooden logs.
  • Respect the equipment.

Event 2 Max Deadlift (Texas Deadlift Bar with Rogue Kilo Plates)

  • 3 attempts allowed.
  • Down command given when full lockout achieved.
  • 60-second time limit per attempt. Time starts when the athlete steps on the platform. The athlete has 30 seconds to approach the platform from the call "bar is loaded".
  • You may re-grip / re-attempt as many times as you need during your 60-second attempt. If time expires while the bar is in motion you may complete the lift and earn a successful attempt. Once time has expired and the bar is in contact with the platform the attempt is over.
  • Opening attempts will be collected at weigh-ins. The second and third attempts are announced by the athlete immediately after the attempt.
  • Gear allowed: Lifting straps (no metal hooks), deadlift suit & briefs, knee sleeves (no knee wraps), 1 soft belt, 1 hard belt, elbow sleeves (one pair only, no elbow wraps), wrist wraps, chalk, liquid chalk, neoprene shorts, neoprene calf support. No barefoot lifting. No tacky substance of any kind. No spray tack. No tacky towels. Shins MUST be covered.
  • You MAY drop the bar after the down-command is given.
  • No "slam pulls", "Bar bouncing", NO SUMO, NO finger-tip deadlifting, your thumbs must be in contact with the bar.

Event 3 Timber Carry

  • Athletes will carry a Frame down and back 50 feet for a total carry of 100 feet.
  • Implement will start on a line. Only the front of the implement must cross the line on the first pass. The entire implement must cross the line on the second and final pass.
  • No straps, hooks, tacky, or other grip aids outside of plain white chalk or plain liquid chalk is allowed (no grip jizz or other sticky substances allowed).
  • 60-second time limit.
  • You will be credited for the distance if you do not finish the 100' distance.
  • The judge is responsible for marking your distance when time expires.
  • The judge's decision is final.
  • 2 second slide penalty for any slide that crosses a finish line. Slides that happen in the course will be free of any penalty unless a judge decides the slide was egregious or meant to be used as an advantage. These slides will be subject to a 2-second penalty.
  • Unlimited drops are allowed.
  • Gear allowed: Knee sleeves (no knee wraps), 1 soft belt, 1 hard belt, elbow sleeves (one pair only, no elbow wraps), wrist wraps, chalk, liquid chalk, neoprene shorts, neoprene calf support. No barefoot lifting. No tacky substance of any kind, no tacky towels. No spray tacky.

Event 4 Sandbag Toss Series15'

  • Athletes will throw bags over a 15' bar.
  • Athletes will start with 1 hand on the throwing bar.
  • The fastest time through all bags wins.
  • Split times will not be taken for those who do not finish all bags.
  • You will get credit for the amount of bags you complete.
  • 60-second time limit. Athletes will be allowed to complete their attempt if a bag is in motion as time expires.
  • Athletes must go light to heavy for all bags. All classes will have 6 bags.
  • Men's SHW, HW, and MW 15'. All other classes 13'.
  • Athletes can carry as many bags from the starting line to their throwing position as they would like.
  • Gear allowed: Knee sleeves (no knee wraps), 1 soft belt, 1 hard belt, elbow sleeves (one pair only, no elbow wraps), wrist wraps, chalk, liquid chalk, neoprene shorts, neoprene calf support. No barefoot lifting. No tacky substance of any kind, no tacky towels. No spray tacky.

 

Event 5 Max Atlas Stone over Bar (State, National, and World record attempts)

  • 3 attempts allowed.
  • Men's bar height = 48"
  • Women's bar height = 44"
  • 90-second time limit per attempt.
  • You may continue your attempt after time expires as long as the stone is not touching the ground. Once the stone is dropped past 90 sec your attempt is over.
  • May not use any part of the bar to aid in the lift. Incidental contact with the bar is allowed at the discretion of the judge.
  • Intentionally slamming the stone on the bar will result in a warning. A second warning will not be given, you will be given a zero. Respect the equipment.
  • Gear allowed: Knee sleeves (no knee wraps), 1 soft belt, 1 hard belt, elbow sleeves (one pair only, no elbow wraps), wrist wraps, neoprene shorts, neoprene calf support, stone sleeves, or tape. No barefoot lifting. Grip Shirts are allowed.

 

Tie Breaker Event: Grip Gauntlet (only for podium spots)

  • Details will be shared at the event when needed.
  • Expect a test of grip such as rolling thunder, blobs, or other. No additional details will be released until the day of the contest.
