-EVENTS-

Mjod Barrel Press: Beer was made from barley. It was consumed in large quantities, because water could be dangerous to drink in the Viking period. Therefore both weak and strong beer was produced. The weak beer could be consumed by children, as well as adults. It quenched the thirst after the salty Viking food had been eaten. This event captures the Viking spirit of celebrating with a barrel of beer.

Equipment: 2 Belts Max, Elbow Sleeves, Wrist Wraps, Knee Sleeves, Shoes

Competitors will have 60 seconds to press 3 weighted barrels overhead until lockout position. Competitors may start with their hands on top of the first barrel. When given the whistle, competitors will clean and press each barrel in weighted order from lightest to heaviest. When and if the competitor presses the last barrel successfully, that competitor may continue to press away the last barrel for reps. Competitors with the most reps in 60 seconds wins the event.

Load the Vogn: Carriages were used in the areas where the terrain allowed. The roads of the Viking Age are known from wheel ruts. Oxen could be used to pull crude working carriages, while presumably horses were mostly used for transporting people. Archaeological finds have been made, which attest to the transport options available in the Viking Age.This event captures the need to load a wagon and transport the goods to another area of the community.

Equipment: 2 Belt Max, Elbow Sleeves, Knee Sleeves, Neoprene Shorts, Shoes

Competitors will stand approximately 30 feet away from a set of wagon wheels. Competitors will begin with one hand on the Vogn. When given the whistle, competitors will run to the wagon wheels and carry each one independently back to the Vogn and load on the loading pin. Once all of the wagon wheels are loaded on to the Vogn, the competitor will push the Vogn to the finish line. Time stops when the front wheel of the Vogn crosses the finish line.

EXHIBITION EVENT FOR CHILDREN: Load the Mini Vogn

All children in attendance are invited to participate in a mini vogn event. Children will load three different sized medicine balls into a wheelbarrow and push across the line.

Mjollnir Throw for Distance: Thor was the most popular of all the gods. He was a god of war and fertility. He created thunder and lightning as he rode over the clouds in a chariot drawn by goats, swinging his hammer Mjöllnir. Thor was physically strong and with his weapon Mjöllnir could do battle with the evil giants who lived in Jötunheimar. This event celebrates Thor’s power in wielding the Mjollnir.

Equipment: 2 Belt Max, Elbow Sleeves, Knee Sleeves, Neoprene Shorts, Shoes

Competitors will be able to set up inside of a throwing box for this event. Competitors will begin with hands on the Mjollnir. When given the whistle to begin, competitors will have 60 seconds to throw the Mjollnir as far as they can. Competitors may throw from the hips, throw from the chest, or any forward facing throw. Competitors MUST throw from the handle and MAY NOT spin or throw from facing backwards. Three attempts will be given and your score will count as the furthest distance thrown of your three attempts.

General Rules

Competitors will conduct themselves in a safe, respectful and responsible manner. Competitors will respect the judges and volunteers for all of their hard work.
