Welcome to Strongman presents Misfit Toys Strength Challenge.

Overview

The women's division of strongman has been steadily growing. Over the last 2 years I've noticed a lot of interest from friends, family, and spectators to join the sport, but there hasn't been a good place for them to start. Enter MTSC, a show serving as a stepping stone for the future Florida strongman competitors. This show will be highlighting the women in the sport with 3 main events. By placing the attention of the spectators on the women's class we are hoping to get new recruits to come by the info station to inquire about training, competing, and to test out some of the implements.

Typically the amount of male to female competitors at shows is overwhelmingly greater. But, we didn't want to leave out our supportive guys making this a women's only show. Instead our gentlemen friends will be competing in a support event, the car deadlift! It will be great to have out fellow athletes with us helping out on a show for the crowd.

I’ve often said strongman is one of the most unforgiving and unfair sports in existence. We don't use calibrated plates, we train with what we have, and it often comes with plenty of scrapes and bruises. Typically the novice class has no weight classes and anyone can enter. That means the experience level and weight disparity can get absurd. I’ve structured this event to give our newcomers a level entry field. Both novice and open class will be challenging and enjoyable.

When choosing which category to sign up under I ask you to please be honest and sign up in the class that matches your ability or will to push heavier.

Due to only 2 novices signing up and being 2 weeks out from the event we have decided to make it all open class.

Need help training? There are several gyms with strongman equipment in the area and surrounding cities. I will be updating which gyms will be hosting group training days on the Facebook event page. If you are training from a big box gym feel free to message me to get you in contact with one of our coaches for programming and substitutions if needed.

Training locations: Sky Athletix, Progear gym, Gorilla Bench, Crossfit Havoc, Powerhouse Tampa, Asgard Training Center, Prime Fitness, Margate Barbell, The Battle Axe Gym. 

Events

The car/truck deadlift: Athlete will start with straps set on the implement. You will have 60 seconds to complete as many reps as possible. Judge will give up and down commands to count the reps. No soft lock outs. Straps, chalk, sleeves, and belts allowed. 

Toyota of Tampa Bay will be providing us a Corolla and a Rav4 to lift. 

REGISTRATION AND START TIME

Show starts at 9:00am. I appreciate those of you driving across the state to participate and ask that you arrive no later than 10:00am to register and start warming up. Car deadlift event will start at 11:00am

WEIGH INS

Weigh ins can be done at the venue before the show or via video call. For a video weigh in you must show the scale is accurate by placing a labeled weight on it (like a 10 lb dumbbell) then weighing yourself. Only LW and MW men need to weigh in.

-Parking: Onsite and plentiful

-Accommodations: Several hotels in the plaza. Check back regarding a discounted rate.

-Food options: You're encouraged to try some of the local flavors. Krate is an outdoor mini mall with a variety of small restaurants, ice cream parlors, and coffee shops. 

-Canopy/shade. To my knowledge we will have an event tent set up. In the case that the venue does not make it available I recommend preparing for an outdoor event. You may bring your own Canopy. Don't forget to hydrate the day before and the day off. And I recommend sunscreen. 

Show Schedule

Weigh-ins: Friday 11/4 at Sky Athletix 8am to 9pm. If you are traveling in for the event the morning of message me to set up a virtual weigh in. You can set your Yoke height at Sky or at check in.

Check in: 11/5 7:30am-8am

Rules meeting: 8:30am

Opening ceremony 8:50am

Go time 9:00am 

CAR DEADLIFT EVENT 11:00am

Awards:1:45pm

Winners for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in all classes will be receiving medals and prizes.
