Power in the Pines VI
$100
Flagstaff, AZ
Power in the Pines is Back on June 14th, 2025 for its 6th consecutive year!
We look forward to delivering the same quality you've come to expect from competitions past with some new fun events and twist on some that may be familiar. The competition will begin with an introduction/rules meeting at 8:30am on the competition day with lifting starting at 9:00am. The first event will be the Max Axle Deadlift run in a powerlifting style format with 3-4 flights, with the first flight warming up until the 9:00am mark and subsequent flights warming up while the prior flight is going. Athletes will then be split into 3 groups and do the middle three events (Log Clean and Press for Reps, Sandbag Loading Medley, and Carrying Medley) in our rotating format as it has in years past (Group rotations below). We will all come back together for the Natural Stone to Shoulder event and conclude with our awards ceremony. Flights and groups will be sent out 2 weeks prior to the competition.
Interested in being a part of the event but don't want to compete? We're looking for 10-15 volunteers to help out, just send me a message with your name and phone number, and we'll figure out where you can help out best, volunteers are greatly appreciated and will receive a free shirt.

Day of weigh-ins are available by appointment only, so make sure to message me ahead of time if you'd rather do so then. There athletes will weigh-in, get the competition shirts, give their axle deadlift openers, and sign a few posters.

Max Axle Deadlift:
The Max Axle Deadlift will be organized in a powerlifting style: three attempts (an opener, second, and third), you call the attempts (minimum of 45lbs, 5lbs increments only). Athletes will be given the platform ready call, from which they will have 60 seconds to strap in (if straps are used) and attempt the weight. Athletes will be given the down signal for a good lift when the bar is locked out fully with hips, knees, and upper back locked out and under control. Two attempts will be allowed during this time frame. Athletes must show control on the way down, dropping the bar from any position above the knees or intentional slamming will result in a 'no lift' on that attempt if the judge deems it necessary, weight can be reattempted if missed as long as it does not violate the 2 attempt in the minute rule. Shoes are not required, but socks are (completely bare foot is not allowed).
Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Belt (1 hard belt and 1 soft belt allowed), all neoprene sleeves, neoprene shorts, wrist wraps, straps (loop straps, figure 8's, versa grips, etc.)

Log Clean and Press for Reps:
Athletes will have 60 seconds to get as many reps as possible with the light and/or heavy log. Every rep will need to be cleaned from the crash pads and locked out overhead under control with feet relatively parallel in order to get the down command and be credited with the rep, no dropping the log from overhead, must be followed or controlled down to the crash pads. You may move between the logs as much as you'd like within the time limit. The lighter log will be worth 1 point and the heavier log will be 100 points, pacing will be determined bot the total number of points earned within the 1 minute time frame. Women Will have the option between the lighter weight on an 8" log or the heavier weight on a 12" log, men will use a 12" log for both options.
Equipment Allowed: Chalk, Belt (1 hard belt and 1 soft belt allowed), wrist wraps, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, elbow cuffs (1 sleeve/cuff allowed per joint), neoprene shorts, grip shirt.
Equipment Not Allowed: Tacky, straps of any kind, suits of any kind.
Sandbag Loading Medley:

Athletes will be allowed to attempt to load the sandbags until they finish all the bags or run out of time. Time will stop when the last sandbag is clearly over the bar. Bar Height is ~46.5" for women, and ~48" for Men

STONE MUST BE DROPPED ON THE CRASH PAD IN FRONT OF IT OR THE REP WILL NOT BE COUNTED. The first stone will be worth 1 point, 2nd stone will be worth 10 points, and the third stone will be worth 100 point. You may move between the stones as you choose, the placings of the event will be determined by the total number of points.

Keg must be returned within 20 seconds of landing on the ground in front of them.
