Refiner's Fire CrossFit presents: The Anvil Strongman Competition

$40

Elkhart, IN

Event 1 is design to be a knockdown, drag out, fistfight.  A mass start of 6 athletes all racing to the finish line first.  In this event the heavy hitters can come out swinging to take an early lead but can they hold on long enough?  Can the sled dog athletes grind for long enough to catch the powerhouses that took the early lead?  Here is your challenge.

Pull and Press

10-8-6-4-2

Calorie Ski

Overhead Press

Time Cap: 5:00

Explanation:

Athletes will begin with a “Le Mans Start” also known as a “Running Start”.  “3,2,1,GO” signal will be given at which point the athlete will run from their barbell to their machine.  Once at the SkiErg they will complete 10 Calories on the SkiErg then run back to the barbell for 10 Overhead Press, then back to the SkiErg for 8 Calories and back to the bar for 8 Strict Overhead Press. This will continue thru 6, 4, and finally 2 or until the 5:00 timecap is reached.

Overhead Press:

The bar will be taken out of the rack and held in the front rack position below the chin.  A Push Press should have only 1 dip in the knees to begin the lift, a second knee bend (Jerk) will result in a “No Rep” and WILL NOT be counted.  To finish the lift the barbell must be overhead (not in front of the head) and elbows must be fully locked out.  This event does not require a “Down Signal” but be warned that judges will issue “No Reps” for improper lockout and a second dip of the knees(Jerk).

Weights

MULW:75lbs MLW:95lbs MMW:115lbs MHW:135lbs

WULW:45lbs WLW:65lbs WMW:75lbs WHW:85lbs

Option Weights

-10lbs for Lightweight +10lbs for Heavyweight

Event 2 sounds like madness. Athletes will have to change their own rubber bumper plates.  If this event were just 7 Deadlifts, it would be way too easy, but are you a master of the barbell? Can you lift it, unload it, AND load it?  Are you a wild sledgehammer or a precision missile strike?

Bull in a China Shop

7 Rep Deadlift Ladder

Time Cap: 2:30

Explanation:

3 Bars will be preloaded for the athlete to start the event. “3,2,1,GO” signal will be given at which point the athlete will complete the first deadlift bar, then the second bar, then the third bar.  After the third deadlift the athlete will need to change their own plates for the fourth deadlift upon instruction from the judge for what to load.  This will continue for the fifth, sixth, and seventh deadlift, each one heavier than the last and loaded by only the athlete competing and only the third barbell will be used for the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh deadlift. A tiebreak time will be recorded for the fourth, fifth, and sixth deadlift in the event there is a tie that needs to be settled.

Deadlift:

Any grip may be used. Thumb tape may be used. No straps may be used.  A complete lockout standing tall with knees/hips/shoulders in a straight line, are required and athletes NEED to wait for a “Down” or “Good” signal or you will receive a “No Rep” and will be required to complete a good rep before moving to the next bar.
