Weigh Ins
Day before weigh ins on April 17th from 9:00am to 11:00am. Evening weigh ins from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.
Athletes may weigh in morning of before the rules meeting as well.
All weigh ins will take place at Edge Strength & Conditioning, the location of the competition.
All weight class athletes must weigh in. Novice and Intermediate do not need to weigh in.
All athletes must show their current Strongman Corp Membership at weigh ins. A screen shot of your membership is often the easiest way to show this. Be sure to have your membership current before the date of the competition. Strongman Corp advises at least three days ahead of when you need it in case there are processing issues, but you should do it sooner! Better to be safe than sorry.
General Guidelines, Rules, and Weight Classes
Nationals Qualifications Guidelines:
For a local competition (this is a local competition), the number of qualifying athletes depends on the number of athletes competing ON THE DAY OF COMPETITION and follows these standards:
- 1 athlete in a class: the promoter may merge the class with another class; if the athlete competes alone they will earn an invite by completing (i.e. not “zeroing”) at least 4 of the 5 events to the standards originally set forth by the promoter.
- 2-4 athletes in a class: 1st place qualifies for Nationals
- 5-9 athletes in a class: 1st and 2nd place qualify for Nationals
- 10+ athletes in a class: 1st-3rd place qualify for Nationals
Competition shirts must be worn for all events.
Equipment NOT allowed on all events: Grip shirts, Grip shorts, Tacky, any sticky stuff, Baby Oil, Baby Powder, Deadlift Hook style straps, gloves.
Event weights are listed in pounds. Events weights are subject to change. Updates to event weights will be shared via email to all competitors.
Weight Classes:
Strongman Corp uses kilogram weight classes. Conversions to pounds shown below. There is no allowance over the weight class for clothing. Weigh ins will be conducted in kilograms.
Novice and Intermediate Classes:
I'm trying this out this year. There is no weight classes for these, rather if you feel like these classes and events are appropriately challenging for you please sign up for them, especially if it's your first time!
Which one is right for you? I would say you think you would zero 2 of the 5 events in a given weight class then you should go down one more class. so if you would zero two events in Intermediate, then sign up Novice!
There are no nationals qualification spots for Novice or Intermediate classes. Looking for everyone to have a fun time and push themselves as hard as they can!
EVENTS
All event weights and rules subject to change.
SSB Box Squat for Max (max weight):
Wessel's rules for attempts: 3 attempts, bar weight only goes up, if you miss you're out. Only the heaviest successful attempt is considered for scoring.
Athletes will squat with an SSB, and squat out of a combo rack to a 15 inch box. Rack heights will be taken at weigh ins. The minimum bar weight for an attempt is 65 pounds. All athletes regardless of weight class or height will squat to a 15" box.
20 pound weight jumps for Men's classes and 10 pound weight jumps for Women's and novice and Intermediate classes.
For a GOOD LIFT, the athlete must make contact with the box with their butt and stand the squat back up, unassisted by spotters, and be returned to the combo rack after receiving a "Rack" command upon completion of the lift. Judge will be looking to make sure the athlete makes contact with the box at the bottom of the squat.
The Mullet Rule: Athletes may wear up to 1 pair of knee sleeves and one pair of compression cuffs for this event. No double sleeves or anything crazy like that.
30 seconds per attempt.
Equipment allowed: Belt, Soft/Support Belt, Knee Sleeves, Compression Cuffs.
Equipment not allowed: Knee Wraps, Grip shirts, Grip shorts, Tacky, any sticky stuff, gloves, squat suits/briefs.
Overhead Medley (reps):
Kettlebell, Axle, Log (12" all classes).
Athletes will start behind the kettlebell, and on "GO" will clean and press the kettlebell. Only one hand may be touching the kettlebell when the press is initiated, just like circus dumbbell rules. Then the athlete can choose which order to do the axle and log in. Once each implement has been pressed once, the athlete may press away on either the axle or log. Score will be the total reps completed in the time limit.
Athletes will receive a "down" command after each press is locked out overhead and feet in line. The implements may be guided down to pads or the ground from lockout, but may not be dropped from the locked out overhead position. Doing so will result in a warning, then a no rep for subsequent instances. The implements may not rest on the athletes head mid lift. This will result in a no rep.
60 second time limit.
Equipment allowed: Belt, Soft/Support Belt, Knee Sleeves, Elbows Sleeves, Compression Cuffs, Wrist Wraps
Equipment not allowed: Grip shirts, Grip shorts, Tacky, any sticky stuff, gloves
Axle Deadlift (reps and pull height):
Athletes will start behind the bar and strap in in their own time. The axle bar will have wagon wheels on it making the default pulling height 13". Athletes will have the choice to move the bar forward and stand on blocks to lower the pull height. Lower pull heights will trump higher pull heights. There will be a standard 9" pull and a 6" pull (deficit of 3").
60 second time limit.
Equipment allowed: Belt, Soft/Support Belt, Knee Sleeves, Elbows Sleeves, Compression Cuffs, Wrist Wraps, deadlift straps, versa grips, figure 8 straps
Equipment not allowed: "hook" style deadlift straps, deadlift suits/briefs.
Ramp Medley - Sandbag, Sandbag, Torque Tank (Reps + time):
Athletes will start at the bottom of the ramp. There will be two sandbags at the bottom of the ramp and a Torque Tank Sled at the top of the ramp 30 feet away. Athletes will carry each sandbag up the ramp, load it into the Torque Tank, and push the Torque Tank back down the ramp to the starting line. The Torque Tank will be on resistance setting 2+ and will have the sandbags weighing it down as well. Bags must be carried lighter bag first, then heavier bag.
Score will be 30 feet for each bag loaded into the sled, plus the distance the Torque Tank is moved. Split times will be taken for finishing the Torque Tank push down the ramp.
60 second time limit.
Equipment allowed: Belt, Soft/Support Belt, Knee Sleeves, Elbows Sleeves, Compression Cuffs, Wrist Wraps
Equipment not allowed: Grip shirts, Tacky, any sticky stuff, gloves.
Max Distance Yoke (distance):
Athlete will carry the yoke as far as possible in 60 seconds. The athlete will drop and turn at 25 feet. No drops allowed except at turns after the yoke crosses the line. If an athlete drops the yoke before finishing the 25 foot length of the course their attempt is over.
The yoke must be completely off the ground for the attempt to count. please consider this when selecting yoke height.
Athletes yoke heights will be taken at weigh ins.
60 second time limit.
Equipment allowed: Belt, Soft/Support Belt, Knee Sleeves, Elbows Sleeves, Compression Cuffs, Wrist Wraps
Equipment not allowed: Grip shirts, Grip shorts, Tacky, any sticky stuff.
