Welcome to the 2nd annual Southeast Strongman Classic presented by Cerberus Strength USA, home of the Alabama Deadlift Championships!

 

Strongman Corporation Sanctioned Competition

  • Athletes will qualify for 2023 Strongman Corporation Nationals and/or Regionals depending on the number of athletes in each division.
    • If there are 2-5 athletes in a class:
      • 1st place - Qualifies for Nationals (2023) and Regionals (2023)
      • 2nd - Qualifies for Regionals (2023)
      • 3rd - Qualifies for Regionals (2023)
    • If there are 6+ athletes in a class:
      • 1st - qualifies for Nationals (2023) and Regionals (2023)
      • 2nd - qualifies for Nationals (2023) and Regionals (2023)
      • 3rd - qualifies for Regionals (2023)
      • 4th - qualifies for Regionals (2023)
  • Based on registration divisions may be expanded or combined.
  • All athletes (including novice) must have active Strongman Corporation membership to compete.

ATHLETE DINNER: WE WILL BE HOSTING AN ATHLETE DINNER ON FRIDAY, MARCH 17TH AT 6PM AT THE VENUE. THIS DINNER IS FREE AND IS BEING PUT ON BY OUR TEAM TO GIVE THE ATHLETES THE BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE AT THE SOUTHEAST STRONGMAN CLASSIC. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. NOT JUST ATHLETES. BRING AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU WANT. PLEASE RSVP TO ME VIA ONE OF THE MEDIUMS LISTED ABOVE SO WE KNOW HOW MUCH FOOD WE NEED.

AFTER PARTY: THE AFTER PARTY WILL BE HELD AT THE TIPPING POINT IN THE BEUTIFUL HAMPSTEAD NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER IN MONTOGMERY AL AT 7PM ON SATURDAY MARCH 18, 2023 AFTER THE COMPETITION. THE VENUE IS LOCATED AT 5015 HAMPSTEAD HIGH ST, MONTGOMERY, AL 36116. THERE WILL BE DRINK SPECIALS FOR ALL ATHLETES, JUDGES, AND VOLUNTEERS! WHILE THIS VENUE DOES SERVE ALCOHOL, IT IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY VENUE AND HAS MANY GAMES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY, INCLUDING YOUNG CHILDREN, AND IS VERY ACCOMADATING TO PEOPLE OF ALL AGES. 

 

HOTELS: We are partnering with Hampton Inn and Suites and their sister hotel, Homewood Suites to offer our athletes discounted rates for Friday March 17 and Saturday March 18. Both of these hotels are 5 minutes from the competition venue and are across the street from each other. We have King suites with a king bed and pull-out sofa bed available at the Homewood Suites and Double Queen rooms with 2 queen beds available at the Hampton Inn and Suites. There are a limited number of rooms at each hotel, so book quickly. You must book no later than February 17 in order to receive the discounted rate. Links Below:

TRAVIS ORTMAYER SEMINAR AND PRIVATE SESSIONS: Travis Ortmayer will be hosting a strongman seminar and private sessions on Friday March 17th at Thorington Road Baptist Church. We will have 4 slots for private sessions available. These slots will be for 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, and 2PM. The seminar will be from 3PM to approximately 5PM. EVENT DESCRIPTIONS:

1. ALABAMA DEADLIFT CHAMPIONSHIPS:

  • RECORDS WILL BE UP FOR GRABS IN ALL OPEN WEIGHT CATEGORIES.
  • AT LEAST $2,000 TOTAL PRIZE POOL FOR RECORD BREAKERS.
  • Standard height with standard deadlift bar.
  • 60 seconds per attempt.
  • Athletes do not have to attempt every weight jump. (20lb jumps for women, 40-50lb jumps for men).
  • Unlimited attempts (legitimate attempts ONLY).
  • Conventional deadlifts only. NO SUMO.
  • Athletes must have knees, hips, and shoulders locked out in order to receive the down command.
  • The competitor MUST wait for the down command, or no rep will be given.
  • Allowed: Suits, belts, chalk, sleeves, wraps, straps, baby powder.
  • Not Allowed: Tacky, baby oil/ Vaseline.

2. Carry Medley

  • Husafel Stone & Sandbag.
  • Athlete will carry the Husafel Stone 50 ft, run back 50 ft to the sandbag, then carry the Sandbag 50 ft and load it over a yoke. Load height is 42 inches.
  • Athletes start with hands off the implement.
  • Athletes must drop the Husafel Stone on the crash pad at the end of the lane. Throwing of the Stone in any way or being reckless with equipment will result in an immediate disqualification from that event and a score of 0 for that event.
  • Time will stop once the sandbag hits the ground after being loaded over the yoke.
  • 60 second time limit.
  • Distance will be measured if the course is not completed.
  • Unlimited drops of both implements.
  • Allowed: Belts, sleeves, gloves, straps, wraps, chalk, grip shirts (No USS grip shirts)
  • Not Allowed: Tacky, hooks.

3. Max Yoke Lift

  • Inspired by the Whiskey Barrel Lift from The History Channel's The Strongest Man in History
  • Athletes will pick the yoke from their set height (the height used in a normal yoke run) into a locked-out position similar to the top of a squat.
  • Entire yoke must be clear of the ground.
  • Athlete may have feet just outside shoulder width or closer. No extremely wide stances. This is to ensure athlete safety and ensure your feet will not be under the yoke when it leaves the ground. This will be enforced at judge's discretion.
  • Yoke must rest on the shoulders (high bar or low bar position).
  • Yoke CAN NOT rest on the neck in ANY WAY.
  • For athlete safety, if the judge feels you are in an unsafe position, they will warn you to correct. Failure to correct position will result in a no rep.
  • Athletes must have knees locked out and the yoke stabilized on their shoulders in order to receive the down command.
  • 30 seconds per attempt.
  • Athletes do not have to attempt every weight jump. (20-30lb jumps for women, 40-60lb jumps for men).
  • Unlimited attempts (legitimate attempts ONLY).
  • The competitor MUST wait for the down command, or no rep will be given.
  • Allowed: Belts, chalk, sleeves, wraps, straps, grip shirts (No USS grip shirts)
  • Not Allowed: Suits, tacky.

4. Overhead Medley

  • Circus Barbell, Log, & Axle
  • Athlete will complete one rep with each implement as quickly as possible.
  • Athlete will clean each implement from the floor and press overhead.
  • Athletes must have knees, hips, and shoulders locked out, and head through in order to receive the down command.
  • The competitor MUST wait for the down command, or no rep will be given.
  • Athlete must control the implement back down. Any reckless behavior with equipment will result in an immediate disqualification from that event and a score of 0 for that event.
  • Split times will be recorded for this event.
  • Allowed: Belts wrist wraps, sleeves, chalk, grip shirts (No USS grip shirts)
  • Not Allowed: Tacky, straps.

5. Farmer's Carry

  • Athlete will carry the Farmer's for Max Distance in 60 seconds.
  • 50 ft course.
  • Athletes may drop the implements in the safe zones at either end of the course to turn around.
  • The implement is considered to be in the safe zone when the front of the implement crosses the line at the end of the course.
  • NO DROPS are allowed inside the course. If an athlete drops inside the course, that will conclude the attempt, and distance will be recorded at that spot.
  • If an athlete has not made any drops inside the course, the attempt will end at the 60 second time limit.
  • No sliding. If your drop is short of the line, your attempt will be ended, and distance measured at that spot.
  • Allowed: Belts, sleeves, chalk.
  • Not allowed: Straps, hooks, gloves, tacky.
