Spring Into Battle

Note: Strongman Corporation membership is NOT the same as USS membership! Make sure you have a membership for the correct organization BEFORE athlete check-in!

Promoter reserves the right to change events/weights, if needed.

  1. Axle Overhead Press for max reps in 60 seconds. Belt cleans will be allowed. Clean once, press way.
  2. Max Trap Bar Deadlift.   Straps and Briefs WILL be allowed, no suits. Rising bar, 3 attempts.
  3. Sandbag Carry for max distance – Athlete will carry a sandbag over a 40ft course for max distance.  Foot must cross line at each end or a distance penalty will be applied at the end. 2 minute time limit. Front carry only, no shouldering.
  4. Valkyrie Sandbag Toss over bar for max reps – Athlete must throw a sandbag over a bar for as many reps as possible in 60 seconds.  Athlete will retrieve bag and throw each direction. Bar height will be 10ft for novice women; 11ft for all other women, 12 ft for novice, masters and LW men, 14ft for MW and HW men
  5. Sandbag over bar for Reps – Athlete will load a sandbag over a yoke bar for as many reps as possible in 60 seconds.  Athlete will move to each side of the yoke to load the bag themselves each time. Bar height will be 48" for women; 52" for men

General rules for all events: No tacky or grip spray of any kind on any events.  Grip shirts will be allowed.

Axle Overhead Press

60 second time limit. Max reps.

Tires will be used on the axle bars along with metal plates. Athletes with OH weights under 200# will use the smaller tires, over 200# will use larger tires, which affects the pick height of the axle bar only.

 

Athlete will start off the mat and must clean the axle once and press away.   Axle can be set down to rest and be re-cleaned, but only one clean is necessary. Belt cleans are allowed. Axle can be pressed overhead using strict press, push press, jerk press, split jerk.   However, feet must be returned to in-line and control shown with head through before they will receive a down command.

Athlete must return the axle to rack position (below the chin) between each rep. If the athlete fails to wait for the down command or return to the rack position, the judge will not give you the rep. If no down command is received on any rep, athlete will receive a zero for the event.

Tires will have decent bounce when dropped, so try to control the bar down when possible.

 

Gear allowed: grip shirts, wrist wraps, elbow/knee sleeves, belts, chalk

 

Max Trap Bar Deadlift

Three attempts per athlete, rising bar.

Starting weights will be determined on day of comp, 10# jumps for women; 20# jumps for men.

Handles will be up on trap bar.

Straps are allowed, but fingers must remain around bar. 60 seconds per attempt, including strap in time.

Rising bar, athletes jump in for their 3 attempts, no repeat attempts – once you fail a lift you are done, even if you have not completed all three attempts.   If you fail your first attempt, you will receive a zero for the event. Highest successful lift will count for score. 

Athlete may lift without shoes, but socks must be worn. Briefs are allowed, but no suits

 

Gear allowed: straps, wrist wraps, elbow/knee sleeves, belts, chalk, briefs (no suits allowed)

 

Sandbag Carry (Max distance)

2 min time limit; max distance

Time starts when Athlete touches bag. Front carry only, no shouldering the bag.  Athlete must carry the bag down and back a 40 ft course.  Athlete’s foot must cross the line at each end, or a 2ft penalty will be assessed at the end for each miss. Athlete may return the bag to their lap during their 2 min, but once the bag touches the ground the athlete is done even if time remains.

If hard belt is worn, buckle must be to the back.

 

Gear allowed: grip shirts, grip shorts, elbow/knee sleeves, belts, chalk, gloves

 

Valkyrie Sandbag Toss over Bar

60 second time limit. 

Athlete will start with hand on yoke and bag will be placed 10ft away.   Athlete must throw bag over bar, run around the outside of the yoke to retrieve the bag and throw the bag over bar from the other side. Athlete may not run under the yoke to get to the other side. Athlete must complete throw from one side before moving to the next. So if bag does not successfully go over the bar, but lands on the other side, athlete must return to original side to complete the throw. Max successful reps will be logged for score.

 

Gear allowed: elbow/knee sleeves, wrist wraps, belts, gloves, chalk

 

Sandbag Load over Bar

60 seconds time limit; 

Bar height will be 48" for women; 52" for men

Athlete will start with hands on yoke. When time starts athlete must pick and load the sandbag over the bar for every rep, running around the yoke, not under to get to the other side. Max reps within 60 seconds will be recorded for score. Athlete may not hold onto Yoke when attempting to lift bag over the bar.  They may hold onto the uprights when moving from one side of the yoke to the other side.

If hard belt is worn, buckle must be turned to the back.

 

Gear allowed: grip shirts, elbow/knee sleeves, chalk, gloves, belts

Friday, April 19: 10am-12:30pm at A Functional Life Chiropractic (2677 Innsbruck Dr STE D, New Brighton, MN 55112);  Saturday, April 20:  8am-9am at Veteran's Memorial Community Center (comp venue) 8055 Barbara Ave, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55077

Awards/Prizes: 

Medals will be given for 1st-3rd place

For Open classes: If there is only 1 athlete in a class, they will get combined with another class or just get a regionals bid (Promoter decision)

If there are 2-5 athletes a class:

1st place – Nationals and Regionals invites

2nd – Regionals

3rd – Regionals

If there are 6+ athletes in a class:

1st – Nationals and Regionals

2nd – Nationals and Regionals

3rd – Regionals

4th – Regionals

For Masters Classes: 1st-3rd place receives a Masters Nationals invite

Novice classes to not receive Regional or National invites.
