StrongFit: Battle for Dominance

$50

Covington, GA

Your strongman training group decided to join a CrossFit gym a few weeks ago because you saw some sandbags and a log in their social media pics. Definitely a few steps up from picking up random road debris every Saturday. So far, your group has been perfectly fine with looking on from the safety of your 5 minute inter-set gummy bear breaks as the class lays on the floor in a pool of sweat after their workout. It feels kinda like birdwatching at the park. But one day, you hear something from the class about "functional fitness". Surely you can't get more functional than picking up a big rock or pulling a truck though, right? So your groups decide to set up a competition to see which training style reigns supreme (neon headbands required). Registrants from Iron Podium will be on Team Strongman.

Competition Details

Weigh-ins will be available on Friday Oct 4 from 4-8PM and on the morning of the competition from 8-9:30AM. There will be a rules meeting at 9:45AM with the first events starting immediately after. Any athletes 40+ can register for the single masters class.

We are partnering with Dawson Masonic Lodge #68 to provide lunch for the competition, $12/plate which includes 1/2 chicken, coleslaw, and chips. All proceeds will be used for charity by the lodge. Please record your name and the number of plates requested (including spectators) here by the registration deadline (9/21) if interested in this option for lunch: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kJDTWP1S7DdHtungIM-JFDQBgrs6ETMg5Vvx051Sj9E/edit?usp=sharing

Events

Viking Press

Athletes will have 1 minute to press the implement overhead as many times as possible. You will press facing away from the implement and be given a down command for each rep once your arms are locked out overhead under control. Strict presses and push presses are both ok but double dipping (jerking) is not allowed. Athletes can take their grip on the handles before time starts but not lift the weight from the ground.

Equipment allowed: one soft underbelt and one hard belt, all sleeves, wrist wraps, all footwear

Equipment not allowed: elbow or knee wraps, slingshots (??), layers of multiple sleeves

Farmers Carry

Athletes will carry farmers handles 50 feet, drop, and bring them 50 feet back as fast as possible, time capped to 1 minute. The run will count and time will be taken when the front plates cross the 50' line. If the handles are dropped aggressively during the run and the plates slide off as a result, time will keep running and the athlete must put the plates back on before continuing. Unlimited drops are allowed. Time will start with the athlete's hands off the handles.

Equipment allowed: one soft underbelt and one hard belt, all sleeves, wrist wraps, all footwear

Equipment not allowed: knee wraps, layers of multiple sleeves, any grip aid other than chalk

Grace

Athletes will clean (NOT a continental clean!) and jerk the bar 30 times as fast as possible, time capped to 8 minutes. Heats of multiple athletes will be run at once, with each athlete getting their own judge to count reps. For reps to count, the bar has to touch the ground between reps and the arms have to be locked out overhead under control, with the feet brought back together. If the plates begin sliding off the bar due to the drops from overhead, the athlete can reset them but the clock will keep running. Heats for this event will be emailed to athletes in advance.

Equipment allowed: one belt, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, all footwear

Equipment not allowed: elbow sleeves or wraps, knee wraps, layers of multiple sleeves, tacky or any sticky grip aid

Mystery WOD

Details to be announced on comp day. This will be time capped to 10 minutes and won't include any advanced gymnastics movements like handstands. Heats of multiple athletes will be run at once, with each athlete getting their own judge to count reps.
