Come on out on 08/12/2023 and prove your Strongman Strength! This event will be on the 'Turf' or strongman side of Big Tex Gym.
The contest is simple with rules being limited. This will be mirroring a Powerlifting style meet but with a Strongman Twist. You will have 3 attempts for all events. If you miss your 1st or 2nd lift, you still get another attempt. BUT you will have to retry the weight you missed before moving forward. With that said, if you missed your 2nd lift, your 3rd lift will be forfeited to try and attempt the missed 2nd lift.


This Contest is to break down the Fundamentals of Strongman

  • Pulling & Grip Strength
  • Movement Strength
  • Loading Strength


As for rules, you will see it is pretty open as this is for your MAX Weight Attempt, as such, we will want to be safe and smart about it. See each individual event rules for details.

As of Right now to avoid restriction of comp wear, no contest shirts. In the event of Sponsors Request for this event, this may change. But as of right now, come in your comfortable clothing and gear needs.

---- SPECTATORS -----

There will not be a spectator fee, if your guest stay on the turf side. But in the event your guest wish to go to the gym side, they may be subject to the gym daily pass.

As Big Tex is known, we will be handing out prizes for top 3, trophies for overall 1st, and medals for 2nd & 3rd.
As well as invites to the amatuer nationals 2024 for the top 3 athletes

---- EVENTS & RULES ----

 

Event 1)  PRESSING Strength - YOKE PRESS (look up wsm safe press for example) -- MEN 
                                                     / Flintstone Lift (look up wsm flintstone press) Women

That's right, No Cleaning needed! Just walk up to the weight and press it. Same pressing rules apply as in, you can Push-Press, Strict Press, Push Jerk, or Jerk the weight. But to get a successful lift, you must show locked out arms w/ head through and legs locked & together. You will receive a down command from the judge to certify the lift is completed.

If you are in a split leg stance or if 1 arm is locked out and the other one is bent, or you are walking the turf... you are not getting the lift. If you have a joint issue that prohibits full lockout, you must describe and demonstrate that for the judge prior to attempting your lifts.  

After your successful lift, you will call your next lift.
If the lift is not successful, you will wait until called upon to attempt the failed weight again.

Women- Same rules apply, the difference is instead of you pressing a YOKE you will be pressing a Barbell from behind the neck- lifting it off of Oly Boxes.

Allowed: Soft Belt, Hard Belt, Elbow/Knee Sleeves, Knee/Wrist Wraps, Tacky Towel, Spray Tack, Chalk & Liquid Chalk, Grip Shirt, Squat/DL suite (idk why but sure)

Event 2)  BACK & GRIP Strength -  Farmer's  Deadlift:  Athlete will walk up to the equipment when called. Once the START command is given, the athlete will grab & begin the attempt. 
To receive a successful lift: you must be locked out (hips through, legs locked, looking to the judge) and the equipment must be fully off the ground on any/all sides. Once you receive a successful lift, you will put the weight down, if you 'let it go' or your grip breaks, even after the down command, you will lose the successful lift. FOLLOW THE WEIGHT DOWN 

After your successful lift, you will call your next lift.
If the lift is not successful, you will wait until called upon to attempt the failed weight again.

You can hook grip the handles, grab the handles far in front or far in back. As long as you are grabbing the handles & it ends up completely in the air, you are good. Pick height will be between 14 and 16 inches.

Allowed: Soft Belt, Hard Belt, Elbow/Knee Sleeves, Knee Wraps, Wrist Wraps, Suits, Squat/DL Briefs, Chalk / Liquid CHalk

Not Allowed:  Lifting Straps, Figure 8's, tacky of any kind, or any type of grip securing aid outside of CHALK

 

Event 3) MOVEMENT - YOKE WALK 

The athlete will begin under the bar ready for the start command.  Once the START command is given, the athlete will pick up the Yoke and attempt to walk 10 ft. to the finish line. THAT'S RIGHT, 10ft! The front of the yoke just has to pass the threshold to get a completed lift.  CHANGE ** Unlimited drops. Though you will not be marked for fastest time, you will have 1 min to finish the walk. Sliding is prohibited. Sliding will be ruled as a no lift and you will have to retake the weight for your next attempt.

After your successful lift, you will call your next lift.
If the lift is not successful, you will wait until called upon to attempt the failed weight again.

Allowed: Soft Belt, Hard Belt, Elbow/Knee Sleeves, Knee Wraps, Wrist Wraps, Tacky Towel, Spray Tack, Chalk & Liquid Chalk, Grip Shirt, Squat/DL suite,  Briefs
