$100

Aurora, CO

Welcome to the second annual SUNDAY PAPER CLASSIC, held at the beautiful Dry Dock Brewery - North Dock in Aurora, CO.

FORTISSIMUS (superlative of fortis)

  1. strongest, most or very strong or powerful. "The Mightiest."

Do YOU have what it takes to take home this title? Sign up now and come find out who the mightiest athletes in Colorado are on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023!

ALL athlete fees and proceeds for this show will go directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: "The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay" (See more at https://www.stjude.org). We are blessed as athletes to use our bodies for competition, and it is therefore our responsibility to use our talents to bless those less fortunate than us. Please see the link below if you wish to donate directly to St. Jude's: https://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR/DIY/Active?px=7412811&pg=personal&fr_id=133385

Last year, through the generosity of athletes and spectators, we were able to raise a grand total of $10,530 for the children of St. Jude. This year, we're raising the bar - my goal is to raise $15,000 or more for St. Jude by donating ALL athlete registration and spectator fees straight to the research hospital.

From 9 AM to 4 PM, the event will be ticketed in order to raise more money for St. Jude - spectator fees will be $10, and children under 12 get in for free. This year the bar actually has parking, but it will be limited (sponsors will get dedicated parking spots). I will be working with the businesses across the street to see if we can use their lots as well. This page will be updated with the best available parking for athletes. Spectator fees can ONLY be paid in cash at the door or through the St. Jude donation link - if you donate ahead of time, you can show that at the door as proof for your entry (this method is preferred).

Weigh-ins are will be at Iron Titan on 9/1 from 8 AM to ~11:30 and then from ~1-2:30 PM. I will be doing weigh-ins 9/2 before the show at 8-8:30 AM BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. If you don't make weight (meaning if you show up day-of with no appointment), you don't compete. Some indoor seating will be provided, and the venue has outdoor picnic tables. There is an indoor taproom for drinks, and a food truck will be operating during the show. There will not be provided seating for the outdoor events, so please plan accordingly. Colorado weather can vary daily, and we will be doing this show rain or shine - please be prepared for anything from blazing, unbearable heat to bone-chilling cold. Athletes will be provided with indoor and outdoor warmup areas and private areas for retreating in between events (please keep family and friends out of these areas - coaches and handlers are fine).

Weights/equipment are subject to change up to and during the contest. In the event of a tie, there will be a tie breaker event which will not be announced until the day of the show.

Indoor bathrooms will be for spectators and sponsors. I have rented additional Porta Potties and an accompanying sink that will be stationed outside for athletes (I know how you people are and I refuse to let the indoor bathroom be tarnished).

First to Third place awards and prizes for all Open divisions.  First place awards for all Novice and Teen divisions. Teens will be a unified weight class for both men and women under the heavyweight class.

EVENT RULES AND DESCRIPTIONS:

Premier TRT Max Circus Dumbbell:  Athletes will have 30 seconds per attempt, and will be given a DOWN command from the judge when the elbow is locked, knees are locked, feet are parallel, and eye contact with judge is maintained. All forms of press are allowed (jerk, push, strict), but dumbbell must be pressed with one hand - second hand must be away before the bell is pressed. All competitors in the same weight class will use the same dumbbell for every attempt. Weights will be increased in preset jumps based on weight class. Athletes can jump in at any weight and but can only make 3 ATTEMPTS. Wessel's rule applies - fail once and you're done. There will be no minimum starting weight per weight class - bells will start empty and athletes can attempt any starting weight. This is for the Colorado State Record!

Legendary Vision Trump Log for Max Reps: Athletes will have a choice between two different logs. The second will be significantly heavier AND will have some sort of size/material difference (i.e., larger diameter, wider handles, etc.). How you train determines which log you will target. A single rep on the heavier log will beat any number of reps on the lighter log - i.e., 1 rep at 250 will beat 10 reps at 200. You can start with the featherweight log and then move up to the heavier log, but once you move up, YOU CANNOT MOVE BACK DOWN. The time it takes for the weight handlers to swap logs for you will be part of your overall time - the earlier you switch logs, the more time you'll get to make an attempt. You can also decide to start on the heavier log. If you get reps on the lighter AND heavier log, only the reps on the heavier log will determine your final score. Dropping the log from overhead will be a no-rep. Viper reps are allowed.

                        -Commands given: DOWN

                        -Time limit: 60 seconds

-Allowed equipment: soft belt, hard belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, any shoes, chalk

-Disallowed equipment: grip shirts, tacky, spray tacky, grip shorts, knee wraps, wrist straps

      Teen/Novice/LWW/Master's Women/MWW/HWW/SHWW:

                        -Feather log: 10" Titan

                        -Trump log: 13" Titan

      Teen/Novice/LWM/Masters Men/MWM:

                        -Feather log: 12" Harambe

-Trump log: 11.5" Mike Bartos Boss Log

      HWM/SHWM/PRO:

                        -Feather Log: 13" Invictus

                        -Trump Log: Slater Wooden Log

Dry Dock Grand Prix: Athletes will first carry a yoke down 75 ft and cross the line with the entire implement. Then, athletes will turn around and carry the Timber Frames back to the starting line another 75 ft. Finally, the athlete will pick up the keg and carry it another 75 ft down and load it over the yoke. Once the keg hits the ground on the other side of the yoke, time will be stopped. There will be a dragging penalty/warning system for the frames just like last year. The yoke and timber frame must completely cross the line before time is stopped. Partial scores will be given as a total distance and time. You're lucky they didn't have a sand pit this year.

-Commands given: NONE (just go and DRAGGING for the frames)

                        -Time limit: 75 seconds

-Allowed equipment: soft belt, hard belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, any shoes, chalk

-Disallowed equipment: grip shirts, tacky, spray tacky, grip shorts, knee wraps, wrist straps

Axle Deficit Deadlift for Reps: Athletes will start on the platform and be given time to strap on to the bar. When time starts, the athlete will complete as many deadlifts as possible within the given time limit. Touch-and-go reps are not allowed - UP and DOWN commands will be given for every rep. Fingertipping (i.e., letting the axle hang from your wrist in the cradle of the Figure 8 straps) is not allowed - you will get one warning and then a no-rep. Hitching and ramping are allowed, but the bar CANNOT rest on your knees mid-lift (i.e., you cannot initiate the pull to your knees, rest it on the joints while you adjust, and then complete the rep. See Rob Kearney if this doesn't make any sense). This will be at your judge's discretion. All lifts will be done on 2" axle bars - you will know if your bar has powder coating or is clear coated prior to the show.

                        -Commands given: UP, DOWN

                        -Time limit: 60 seconds

                        -Deficit height: 2"

-Allowed equipment: soft belt, hard belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, wrist straps, Figure 8 straps, any shoes, chalk

-Disallowed equipment: grip shirts, tacky, spray tacky, grip shorts, knee wraps, deadlift/squat suits, deadlift/squat briefs

Colorado Discount Nutrition "Baron of The Bags": Three sandbags will be staggered at 60 ft, 40 ft, and 20 ft from the yoke. Athlete will start at the yoke, and will run to the first bag when the time starts. From lightest to heaviest, the bags will be carried and loaded down and over the yoke. For the final bag, the athlete will load the bag over the yoke for reps until time is done. The athlete can go around or under the yoke to retrieve the bag and pass it from the other side. Total reps wins the event.

                        -Commands given: NONE

                        -Time limit: 60 seconds

-Yoke height: 52" for men, 48" for women

-Allowed equipment: soft belt, hard belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, any shoes, chalk

-Disallowed equipment: grip shirts, tacky, spray tacky, grip shorts, knee wraps, suits, briefs

Note: Events 2, 3, 4, and 5 will be ran simultaneously and will swap when each "heat" is finished. Depending on your division, you may be doing the medley or the log first.
