Valhalla's Strongest at VikingFest 2024!!!

Saturday November 9th, 2024 

Rules meeting at 10:30am. Competition will start 11:15am.

All athletes are required to attend the rules meeting to compete. Everyone must weigh-in/check-in prior to event start. No Exceptions.

Weigh-ins will be held Friday November 8th, 2024 from 3pm until 7pm at Castle Bridge Event Center, 8403 US-59
Saint Joseph, MO 64504 & Saturday November 9th, 2024 from 8:00am till 9:30am at the same.  Please make every attempt to weigh-in the evening before the meet.

This is a unique opportunity to be centerstage at a Viking Festival in Saint Joseph, Missouri. You will be competing at the center of the festival and its activities.  Please expect crowds to accumulate in the spectator area. A separate area will be designated for athletes and coaches. 

 

The competition will be held outdoors at the Castle Bridge Event Center grounds.  The meet will include a replica Husafell stone carry path (dirt) and all other events will be held on horse stall mats placed over ground.  Every attempt will be made to level the ground, but expect OUTDOOR conditions.  In the event of rain we will move under a covered open air structure and all events will be held on concrete flooring.

 

Viking attire is not required, but is highly encouraged.   However, any attire, language, etc. related to white supremacy will not be tolerated and will result in your immediate expulsion from the event with no refund.

If there are 2-5 athletes in a class:

1st Place - Nationals and Regionals 

2nd Place - Regionals 

3rd Place - Regionals

If there are 6+ athletes in a class:

EVENT DETAILS: 

1. Max Saxon Bar Deadlift

The athlete will have 30 seconds for each deadlift attempt.  The athlete may start with hands on the bar.  The athlete’s hands must both be over the top of the bar in a pinch grip. Wrapping fingers underneath the bar is not allowed even if the athlete’s fingers are long enough. 

The starting weight for women is 55# and the weight will increase by 10# each round up to 105# then 5# increments thereafter.

The starting weight for men is 95#.and the weight will increase by 10# each round up to 165# then 5# increments thereafter. The athlete may skip weight increments.

If you miss an attempt, you are eliminated, and your last successful lift will be recorded.

Sumo and Conventional Stance Allowed

Equipment allowed for Saxon bar deadlift: hard or soft belt, or combination (no built-up belt); chalk.

Equipment not allowed for Saxon bar deadlift: lifting straps; suits or briefs; tacky, stickem, spray tack, or any adhesive of any kind.

 

2. Overhead Press Medley (Axle – Block – Log)

The athlete will have 60 seconds to press all three implements. The athlete must press the implements in order. Once the athlete reaches the log they will clean and press it away for reps to finish off the minute. 

Women will use a 10” log and Men will use a 12” log. Novice Women, Masters Women, and Open Women (u140) and (u160) will press a keg instead of a block.

Order of implements will be 1) Axle, 2) Block, 3) Log

Equipment allowed for press medley: Grip shirts; hard or soft belt, or combination (no built-up belt); sleeves; wrist wraps.

Equipment not allowed for press medley: tacky, stickem, spray tack, or any adhesive of any kind; elbow wraps.

 

3. Replica Husafell Carry

Do you have what it takes to be fullsterker? 

The athlete will have 60 seconds to carry the Husafell stone of their choice as far as they can. Once the stone has been lifted the athlete cannot choose a lighter or heavier stone. Once the stone is dropped the distance will be marked. The event will be scored using a point multiplier.

Example: Each stone is assigned a multiplier. Your distance will be multiplied by the multiplier assigned to the weight of the stone for your final event score.  If the athlete carries the 210# stone for 30 feet, they will be credited a score of 60 (30 x 2 = 60)

110# = x1

210# = x2

310# = x3

NOTE: All belt buckles must be to the side or back of the competitor to protect the stones. 

Equipment allowed for stone carry: hard or soft belt, or combination (no built-up belt); chalk; grip shirts.

Equipment not allowed for stone carry: suits or briefs, tacky, stickem, spray tack, or any adhesive of any kind.

 

4. Wagon Wheel Axle Deadlift for reps

The athlete will have 60 seconds to complete as many reps as possible. The athlete may strap in before time starts. The athlete will receive a command to “go” but will not receive an “up” command for reps.  The athlete will receive a down command for each rep. If the athlete prematurely jumps the down command the rep will not be rewarded to the athlete. If the athlete is using straps the hand must be wrapped around the bar. No fingertip deadlifts allowed. Shins must be covered for the event for hygiene purposes.

The wagon wheel deadlift will use an axle at 13” height from the ground.

Equipment allowed for deadlift: straps (figure 8, regular, axle); hard or soft belt, or combination (no built-up belt); baby powder.

Equipment not allowed for deadlift: tacky, stickem, spray tack, or any adhesive of any kind; suits, briefs, slingshot, or spud shorts.
