Virginia's Strongest Man & Woman 2020

 Who will claim the title of VA’s Strongest Man/Woman 2020?!

Coming to the Iron Asylum Gym in Virginia Beach! This is a United States Strongman sanctioned meet and qualifier for USS Nationals 2021

Weigh-ins Friday Sept 18 9-11 am and 5-7 pm ONLY

*Event Rules and Standards:

1- AXLE CLEAN & PRESS LADDER

This event will run as a ladder with 3 weights at 3 separate stations set up in a row. The athlete has 60 seconds to get all 3 axle clean and presses at increasing weights. If they do not get all 3 lifts within the 60 seconds, they receive points for the ones completed. Split time taken at the last axle only.

Equipment allowed:

belt with buckle backwards, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, grip shirts, chalk.

Not allowed: tacky, lifting straps.

Good lift:

Any kind of clean from the ground, any kind of press from the shoulders. Finished lift is upright and elbows/knees/hips locked out with feet parallel not staggered. Dropping from overhead not allowed, controlled drop allowed. Must wait to hear “lift” and “down” command.

2- DEADLIFT FOR REPS

Texas or Rogue Ohio power bar used (stiff bar). Athlete starts with hands on the bar to allow time to strap in if using straps. 60 seconds to get max reps. DOWN COMMAND ONLY.

Equipment allowed:

Belt, knee sleeves, STRAPS, shoes of choice or no shoes, powder & chalk

Not allowed: suits, tacky, oil

Good Lift:

Fully upright with knees and hips extended. No sumo pulls allowed, hands must be outside of legs at start of lift. No drops allowed, must control down and maintain control of weight. Lift is good when judge says “down” and weight is lowered under control. All plates must make contact with the ground between reps.

3- GROWING YOKE

Yoke will start at one end of the 40’ lane loaded with the first weight in the sequence. Athlete moves 40’ to the other end where the first weight jump is loaded by loaders, athlete turns around, re picks the yoke and moves back 40’ to start line for the next increase. This is done 4 times with increasing loads. Weight noted and distance measured at 60 secs if all 4 runs are not completed. Split time at last run only.

Equipment Allowed:

Belts, knee sleeves, knee wraps, wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, chalk, grip shirts.

Not allowed: tacky

4-FRONT HOLD FOR TIME

This is a FRONT HOLD for time. A single implement is held with arms extended forward, palms down. This will be a head to head event with multiple athletes for time.

Equipment allowed:

Belts, knee sleeves, chalk.

Not allowed:

Wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, tacky.

Good lift:

Arms extended forward with knuckles and top of shoulder creating a straight line. Time taken when arms drop below line. No excessive leaning back allowed, both feet must maintain contact with ground. No lifting of arms above the straight line allowed. No underhand grip allowed.

5- Sandbag Carry and Load

Athlete picks each sandbag from the ground to front carry 20-40’ (depending on weight class) and load over the bar. No shouldering allowed.

MASTERS and NOVICE distance is 20’

OPEN CLASSES 40’

Belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, grip shirt, chalk.

Not Allowed:

Tacky
