One of Netflix’s biggest boxing events of the year is taking place tonight at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, with Jake Paul facing former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Joshua, a two-time unified heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist, holds a 28–4 record with 25 knockouts. Tonight bout marks his return following a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. The 36-year-old took a year off to reset before training with the same team behind heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“I haven’t slowed down my training because it’s Jake Paul,” Joshua told the New York Times. “It’s been an actual training camp. We’re not training for Jake Paul, we’re training to beat whoever’s in the future. So from an ability point of view, I’ve definitely pushed myself.”
The Brit is up against the 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer, who went professional in 2020. Paul’s 12–1 record includes victories over Anderson Silva, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz. Tonight’s fight marks Paul’s second live event on Netflix in just over a year, following his victory against Mike Tyson in November 2024.
Paul will be at a disadvantage in both weight and height tonight. During Thursday’s weigh-in, Joshua tipped the scales at 243.4 pounds and stands 6-foot-6, while Paul checked in at 216.6 pounds and is 6-foot-1. Paul also has a reach that is six inches shorter than Joshua’s.
Paul told Beacher Report that beating Joshua would send more than a message. “It's literally just like a complete shutdown, reboot boxing," Paul explained. "I would have it in the palm of my hands, and I think everyone would just be completely silenced, and jaws dropped on the floor. That's what's gonna happen on December 19th.”
