Check in time for all athletes will be from 7:30 to 8:30 AM at the Heavy Athletics field tent each morning.

A few points of clarification for all athletes regarding class eligibility to ensure a fair and equitable competition. The below guidelines are in accordance with Scottish Athletics International’s policies and procedures and the IOC Consensus on February 27, 2005:

• Men’s Classes (open to men, women, non-binary persons, any gender identification):

o Open: Anyone may compete in this class, but typically this class is for people over 200 lbs.

o Lightweight: Athlete must weigh-in at less than 200 lbs prior to competition. We will allow weigh-ins Friday afternoon at set up and at the Ceilidh as time permits.

o A note for transgender athletes: those who transition from female to male, or non-binary athletes who use testosterone promoting hormone therapy are eligible to compete in the male category without restriction. We are allowing athletes to choose a transition period of no more than two years to continue to compete within their original category if they were assigned female at birth and are now using testosterone for gender affirming care. After that point, they will need to compete in which ever male category they qualify in.

• Women’s Classes (open only to females, non-binary individuals who were assigned female at birth and are NOT using testosterone promoting hormone therapy, or those identifying as female who fit the following criteria):

o Those who transition from male to female are eligible to compete in the female category under the following conditions:

? The athlete has declared that her gender identity is female. The declaration cannot be changed, for sporting purposes, for a minimum of four years.

? The athlete must be on HRT for at least 2 years prior to her first competition with the requirement for any longer period to be based on a confidential case-by-case evaluation, considering whether or not 2 years is a sufficient length of time to minimize any advantage in women’s competition).

o Lightweight: Athlete must weigh-in at less than 150 lbs prior to competition. We will allow weigh-ins Friday afternoon at set up and the Ceilidh as time permits.

As we do not test, we are adopting a policy of having open conversations with any athletes who come to us with their identity. Open communication is key to working with any transgender athlete who approaches us with a desire to throw.
