Beast of the East 2025
$70
Middle River, MD
YOU WILL NEED AN ACTIVE USS MEMBERSHIP TO COMPETE AT THIS EVENT!
Beast of the East is coming back! Jon Ward started this comp and has given me the blessing of running it this year.
Four max events all using Wessell's rules. 3 attempts for each event done auctioneer style. Miss an attempt and you're out. If you open heavier than another athlete, and your top attempts are the same, the athlete who opened heavier wins. State records will be up for grabs! This competition will be HEAVY and it's entirely up to you and your training how heavy it will be.
CHARITY EVENT: A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Coffee and Paws Dog Rescue!
NOTE: The order of events on this list may or may not be the order you do on competition day.
EVENT 1: MAX YOKE
Athlete will carry a yoke 25 feet. You will have 60 seconds to complete the course. NO DROPS ALLOWED, so plan accordingly. Time does not start until the judge says "go". If you are not ready, tell your judge that! The yoke is a Rogue Y-2. There will be a similar yoke set up nearby for warm-ups. Wessell's rules. 3 attempts but miss one and you are out. 50lb jumps. 25lb jumps for women. THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Equipment Allowed: Belt, Knee and Elbow Sleeves, Knee Wraps, Chalk, Grip Shirt...anything but tacky.
EVENT 2: MAX FARMER'S WALK
Athlete will carry a set of farmer's handles 25 feet. You will have 60 seconds to complete the course. NO DROPS ALLOWED, so plan accordingly. Time does not start until the judge says "go". If you are not ready, tell your judge that! The farmer's handles are a custom top-loaded set created by Aaron Fondry in Vermont. They are 55lbs empty and roughly a 16'' pick. There will be a set of Titan top-loaded handles nearby for warm-ups. Wessell's rules. 3 attempts but miss one and you are out. 25lb jumps for men. 10lb jumps for women. THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Equipment Allowed: Belt, Knee and Elbow Sleeves, Knee Wraps, Chalk, Grip Shirt, Wrist Wraps...anything but straps and tacky. Wessell's rules. 3 attempts but miss one and you are out.
EVENT 3: MAX AXLE DEADLIFT
Pretty simple. Athlete will deadlift the axle with hips and shoulders locked out. Hitching allowed, sumo is not. 30 seconds to complete a rep. Time does not start until the judge says "go". If you are not ready, tell your judge that! Must wait for down command. Athletes will use an Ironmind Axle. A similar axle will be nearby for warm-ups. Wessell's rules. 3 attempts but miss one and you are out. 30 seconds per attempt. 25lb jumps for men, 10lb jumps for women.
Equipment Allowed: Belt, Knee and Elbow Sleeves, Knee Wraps, Chalk, Grip Shirt, Wrist Wraps, Wrist Straps, Suits, Briefs, Baby Powder (NOT OIL). No tacky.
EVENT 4: MAX LOG
Athlete will clean and press a log from floor to overhead. Log will be set on Titan Crash Pads for athletes. 30 seconds to complete a rep. Time does not start until the judge says "go". If you are not ready, tell your judge that! Must wait for down command. Men will use a 12'' Pitbull Log. Women will use a 10'' Rogue Log. Similar logs will be available for warm-ups as will a separate set of crash pads. You can press the log any way you'd like: Strict, Push Press, Push Jerk, Split Jerk, Viper, etc. However, feet must be together and head through to get a "down" call. If you have any limitations with your lockout, be sure to show and tell your judge before you go. If not, too bad. If you're trying to press the log off of your head, you've now given yourself a headache for a no rep. 30 seconds per attempt. Wessell's rules. 3 attempts, but miss one and you are out. 20lb jumps for men, 10lb jumps for women.
Equipment Allowed: Belt, Knee and Elbow Sleeves, Knee Wraps, Chalk, Grip Shirt, Wrist Wraps; no tacky.
In the event of a tie, there will be a mystery tiebreaker event.
There is NO spectator fee! Your friends and family will watch you crush some PRs! There is plenty of outside space to set up chairs. Inside will be standing room only.
GAMEDAY TREATMENT: On-site physical therapy will be available courtesy of True Sports Physical Therapy.
