"Did we just become best friends?!?"
Grab your best friend, and join us for the 3rd annual (g*damn) Catalina Strongman Mixer Partner Throwdown!

FOR THE LITTLE HOMIES: Our strongkids did so awesome (and were so stinkin’ cute) last year, that we’re bringing back Catalina Kids competition! Up-and-coming strongman kids age 5-14 are invited to participate in our kids competition. All the equipment is designed specifically for our younger lifters, but looks just as cool as the grown-up toys. Registration is right here!

Event Descriptions
Carry Medley: Athletes will have assorted strongman items to be carried 50 feet. Items will be: a loaded trap bar, TWO sandbags (one heavier, one less heavy), a husafell (loadable metal version), and a bunk bed (plate loadable)! SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES. No sliding, rolling, shouldering of any of the items. Unlimited drops allowed, and either partner can carry any item (so if one of you drops it, the other may finish it. Team work makes the dream work). The bunk bed must stay upright. Husafell needs to be upright at the end. There will be a mat at the end where the sandbags, trapbar & Husafell will need to be placed. If not all items are finished, the score will be the number of items across the finish line within a 90 second max. The bed empty weighs approx 320lbs, and we will load some additional weight for open/larger classes.
Equipment Allowed: belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk (liquid or powder), gloves.
Equipment NOT Allowed: NO grip shirts, nothing sticky, no suits/briefs (neoprene are fine, but no single-ply or multi-ply), no straps, and absolutely no tacky.
Partner Sandbag Over Bar: Athletes will alternate loading a sandbag over a bar. Athletes are going for max reps in 90 seconds. Once either athlete cannot do more reps, the team is done. The first athlete will begin with hands on the bar and can begin on “3-2-1-GO”. Sandbags may not be shouldered. No grabbing of the bar. Partners may not assist by pulling or otherwise helping when it is the other person's turn to load. All bags will be Cerberus bags filled with sand and/or rubber mulch.
Women's, Teen & Novice Open Gender classes bar height will be 44 inches
Open Gender Intermediate & Open and Novice Men will be 48 inches
Intermediate & Open Men will be 52 inches
Equipment Allowed: belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk (liquid or powder).
Equipment NOT Allowed: NO grip shirts or grip shorts, no gloves, nothing sticky, no suits/briefs (neoprene are fine, but nothing single-ply or multi-ply).
Team Max Axle Wagon Wheel Deadlift: Teams will be given 4 minutes for both partners to establish 1-rep max deadlifts. The team will be given an axle bar loaded with Rogue wagon wheel bumpers (total combined weight 165, 13in pick height) and an assortment of additional plates to load the bar. Athletes may take as many attempts as they want and lift in any order during the 4 minutes. Before lifting, the athlete must verbally confirm the weight loaded on the bar with the judge. For an attempt to "count" towards the team's score, the athlete must receive a "down" command from the judge and return the bar to the ground with control. All reps must be pulled in a conventional deadlift style (no sumo). No bouncing is allowed ("ramping" and "hitching" are fine). The team score for the event is the total of the heaviest weight lifted for each athlete. (For example, if Athlete A lifts 300lbs and Athlete B lifts 200lbs, the team score is 500.) Feet must be covered, but shoes are not required (i.e. socks are fine).
Equipment Allowed: belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk (liquid or powder), straps (figure-8 or regular)
Equipment NOT Allowed: no hook-style straps or grips, NO grip shirts or grip shorts, nothing sticky, no suits/briefs (neoprene are fine, but nothing single-ply or multi-ply).
Partner Log Press & Dinnie Hold: One teammate will do a static Dinnie hold while the other teammate cleans and presses a log for max reps in 90 seconds. The log may only be pressed when the holding teammate is fully in control of their hold. If the teammate holding the Dinnies drops before the teammate pressing receives a down command, the rep will not count. Teammates may switch at any point during the allotted time. The Dinnie may not touch the ground during the other athlete's press. The log must touch the ground between reps. A "down" command will be given when the log is fully locked out overhead (elbow locked out, knees and hips locked out, feet on a straight line, log under control). The log must be controlled to the ground (NO purposeful drops from overhead). NO resting the log on your head. Viper pressing is fine. If an athlete has a physical limitation that prevents a full elbow lockout, they must inform their judge BEFORE their time starts. Dinnies may be held in any position (traditional, between the leg hold, farmers style). Weight will be set up for a traditional Dinnie stance, and if the athlete wishes to move them, they can do so after their time has started.
Equipment Allowed: belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk (liquid or powder).
Equipment NOT Allowed: NO grip shirts or grip shorts, no gloves, nothing sticky, no suits/briefs (neoprene is fine, but not single-ply or multi-ply). NO straps.
Truck Push Me Pull You: One teammate will arm-over-arm pull a truck. The second team mate will push the truck back to its starting point. The pulling athlete will have a tire to use for bracing and may begin standing or seated. After the front of the truck crosses the finish line, the second athlete will push the truck back. Distance will be measured if unable to complete within 90 sec time limit. Most classes will be pushing a Kona Ice Truck.
Equipment Allowed: belt, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk (liquid or powder), gloves
Equipment NOT Allowed: NO grip shirts, nothing sticky, no suits/briefs (neoprene is fine, but nothing single-ply or multi-ply).
Registration Details:
The price listed ($70) is PER PERSON, and each person on the team will register individually.
Pick one teammate to start the registration process. After the first athlete registers there is a screen that allows the athlete to create a new team and make invitations to that team.
After the first athlete creates the team, that athlete will invite the other teammate. It is important that you invite your teammate using their Iron Podium email address. Life is much easier this way. The invited teammate will register using the invitation and opt to join an existing team during the registration process.
Each athlete will select their own shirt size and sign their own individual waiver during this process.
Athletes that have registered can get back to the team editing page from their account at any time.
Other Info:
This competition is unsanctioned, so you do not need a membership to any federation to compete.
All weights, distances, rules, etc are subject to change.
We will not be adding any additional classes, but some classes may be combined depending on registration numbers.
Please keep your team names clean (PG-13 or kinder). Bonus points for Step Brothers-themed names.
Pricing is per person ($70 each), and each teammate registers individually (see above).
