Athlete will have 30s from "go" to complete their attempt. 3 attempts only. Wessels rules: cannot go down in weight on next attempt, may retake the same weight though.
Weight Jumps as follows:
Men: Starting weight-200lbs with 20lbs jumps until 300lbs. Then we will jump 10lbs only (once we make it to 280lbs, the large slater will come out)
Women: Starting weight- 106lbs with 20lbs jumps to 200lbs. Then we will jump 5lbs only (10" slater will be used the whole time)
Equipment not allowed: Tacky, Tacky Spray
Equipment Allowed: Soft belt, Hard belt, Elbow and Knee sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk, grip shirt (any)
Event 2: Deadlift for reps
Athlete will have 60s from "go" to complete their attempt. The goal is as many reps as possible. The go command will be given after athletes are strapped in. The bar will be a deadlift bar. The height will be standard height. Athletes will be given a down command from their judge.
Equipment not allowed: Tacky, Tacky Spray
Equipment Allowed: Soft belt, Hard belt, Elbow and Knee sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk
Event 3: Yoke to Farmers
Athlete will have a 50' lane. A yoke will be at one end (starting spot) and the farmers will be at the other end. The goal is to lift and walk yoke all the way down, and return with both of the farmers handles. Once the front of the implement crosses the line, the time is taken. Fastest time wins. Unlimited drops. No sliding the implements unless you want a 5 second penalty.
Equipment not allowed: Tacky, Tacky Spray
Equipment Allowed: Soft belt, Hard belt, Elbow and Knee sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk
Event 4: Single arm Sandbag Toss
Athlete will have 60s to toss their bag over the bar as many times as possible. Once successfully thrown over the athlete will run AROUND the apparatus NOT under to retrieve their bag and throw it from that side. This will continue for the duration of 60s. As many reps as possible. Most reps over the bar successfully wins. If the bar gets stuck on the top it will count as a rep, but will be on the athlete to shake it down and keep going.
Women’s bar height: 11’
Men’s bar height: 12’
Equipment not allowed: Tacky, Tacky Spray
Equipment Allowed: Soft belt, Hard belt, Elbow and Knee sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk
Event 5: Sandbag Trifecta
Athletes will have 90s in this event to complete as many reps as possible to achieve maximum points. Lapping the sandbag will be worth 1 point. Standing up fully with the sandbag will be worth 3 points. Shouldering the sandbag will be worth 9 points. Once the sandbag is lapped, the judge will give a "LAP" command. If you choose to drop it again you will be awarded 1 point. If you choose to stand with it and successfully receive a "STAND" command, that will be 3 points (not 4 for the lap and the stand). If you successfully shoulder the bag and receive a "DOWN" command, you will get 9 points (not 13 for all 3).
EXAMPLE: I lap the bag and receive the "LAP" command. Then stand up quickly attempting a shoulder but miss, that is 1 point because you did not stand fully locked out and receive the "STAND" command. You must receive your command before that particular rep is awarded points.
ANOTHER EXAMPLE: I lap the bag, receive my "LAP" command and then stand with it to achieve my "STAND" command because I am unsure if I can successfully shoulder the bag. I will have 3 points for that attempt at that moment, but if I dip down back to my lap to generate momentum and get it to the shoulder, receive my "DOWN" command, I will get 9 points.
Each rep, no matter what you choose; lap, stand, or shoulder MUST return back to the ground.
Equipment not allowed: Tacky, Tacky Spray
Equipment Allowed: Soft belt, Hard belt, Elbow and Knee sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk, grip shirt (any)
Feel free to message, text, or email any questions you may have.
This event will be held alongside a multitude of other competitions (Arm Wrestling, Bench Press Max Event, and a Hybrid Athlete style competition)
There will be vendors, booths, food, and possibly beer available for purchase as well.
We are aiming to have it be a large event with lots going on, so plan accordingly.
Location is still going to be the Purdue ROTC Armory. There are parking garages all around the area, street parking, etc.. It is on Purdue University's Campus so be prepared to walk a block or two to get there. For that, I do apologize. But, the venue is super spacious and will be an amazing time!
