Deathember: No Hope for the Holidays
End your year on a low note! Destroy your forearms, tear off your calluses, and lose all hope for a happy holiday season. Masochists unite at The Barn Gym on December 9th, 2023 for a dang miserable and grip-heavy Strongman and Strongwoman Competition. Weights and event details coming soon!!!
Log/Axle Clean & Press Medley
60 second time limit. There will be a log and an axle set up on the platform. On the judge's "go," the athlete will clean and press each implement once, and then clean and press the implement(s) of their choosing for as many reps as possible. To elaborate, the athlete MUST clean and press both the log and the axle once each before going on to the next rep(s). The athlete can start on whichever implement they wish. Once they've gotten a good rep on each, they can rep out either or both implements however they see fit. Clean every rep. WAIT FOR THE DOWN COMMAND. If you do not wait for the down command or you drop the weight from overhead, you will get no-repped. Strict press, push press, split jerks are all allowed. Belt cleans are allowed. A good rep is feet together, elbows locked out, and head through at the top. Here are some examples of what your 60 seconds could look like:
Jimmy starts with the log. He cleans and presses the log, gets a down command from his judge, and moves on to the axle. He cleans and presses the axle, and gets a down command from his judge. Jimmy now continues to clean and press the axle for his remaining time. He gets two additional reps on the axle. His score is 4 reps.
Sarah starts with the axle. She gets a good rep on the axle, then a good rep on the log. When she tries for another rep on the log, she can't lock it out, so she goes back to the axle to try for more reps there. She gets three more! Sarah ends with a score of 5 reps.
Bubba starts with the axle, and gets a good rep there. Unfortunately, Bubba can't get a rep on the log. He gets a score of 1 rep because he is not allowed to do any more reps on the axle without first locking out the log.
Kandy starts with the log, but she can't press it. She still tries for a rep on the axle because she may as well get a score of 1 rep!
Try as he might, Larry can't get a rep on either implement. He gets a big fat zero for this event.
EQUIPMENT ALLOWED: elbow sleeves, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, belts
EQUIPMENT NOT ALLOWED: grip shirts, straps, anything sticky
Max Double Overhand Axle Deadlift (from the floor, Wessel's Rule)
Each athlete gets 3 attempts. 30 second time limit per attempt. 20lb jumps. If you miss, you are out! The athlete will start with their hands off of the implement. On the judge's command, they will deadlift the axle. They will WAIT FOR THE DOWN COMMAND from their judge. This is a double-overhand deadlift. NO STRAPS are allowed! NO MIXED GRIP pulls are allowed! NO FALSE GRIP pulls are allowed (your thumb must be around the axle). NO HOOK GRIP pulls are allowed (yes, we know a few people with hands big enough to try). NOTHING STICKY, including tape, tacky, tacky towels, spray tack, chewing gum, etc. If we catch you with ANYTHING sticky on your hands, you will be disqualified from the entire competition and asked to leave.
EQUIPMENT ALLOWED: sleeves, belts
EQUIPMENT NOT ALLOWED: suits, briefs, straps, anything sticky
Max Zercher Squat (on an axle from the floor, Wessel's Rule)
Each athlete gets 3 attempts. 60 second time limit per attempt. 20lb jumps. If you miss, you are out! The athlete will start with their hands off of the implement. On the judge's command, they will begin their lift. They will first get the axle to their lap (with what is essentially a deadlift), then get their arms under the bar with elbows hooked around it, and stand up for a lockout. For the "deadlift" portion of this lift, mixed and false grip pulls are allowed. NO STRAPS are allowed. NOTHING STICKY is allowed.
EQUIPMENT ALLOWED: elbow sleeves, knee sleeves, belts
EQUIPMENT NOT ALLOWED: grip shirts, straps, anything sticky
Last Man Standing 20' Farmer's Carry (no drops, must take every jump)
Each athlete will take every weight jump. 30 second time limit per attempt. 20lb jumps per handle. NO DROPS ALLOWED! The athlete will start with their hands off of the handles. On the judge's command, they will lift and carry the implements 20'. The front of BOTH implements must cross the finish line for the attempt to count! Once the athlete has a drop or failure to lift the implements at the start of at attempt, they are out, and that attempt does not count.
Crucifix Hold (max time)
Stay tuned, still working on the details for this one, but this will be a classic crucifix hold (arms out to the side) for max time.
