WEIGH-INS:

Friday, October 27 10am-12pm AND 4pm-7pm at Detroit Muscle Gym, 736 Junction St, Plymouth MI 48170

  • All competitors must weigh-in on Friday
  • All applicable implement heights for athletes will be recorded at weigh-ins
  • No weigh-ins on comp day

VENUE FOR WEIGH-INS AND COMP:

Detroit Muscle Gym, 736 Junction St, Plymouth MI 48170

  • Directions and other info will be emailed to competitors closer to the comp date

SPECTATORS

Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come check out cool strong people doing cool strong things with our cool strong friends! 

  • Spectators can purchase tickets for $10/ea below, or, if still available, at the door for $10 cash only or $15 Venmo
  • Spectators include coaches/handlers, family (kids under 16 free), friends, community members, etc.
  • Spectators may enter the gym starting at 9:00am
  • Please bring camp chairs, etc. for those in your party as we will not have extra chairs available
  • In true spooky season spirit, please feel free to wear your favorite (appropriate) Halloween costume! We will have a costume contest with prizes for kids and adults, sponsored by Bank of Ann Arbor!
  • Spectators will be asked to please use the outside portable bathrooms and leave the indoor bathrooms available for athletes and volunteers
  • Thank you for your support!

COMP DAY SCHEDULE:

  • All events and activities will be held indoors. Spectator porta-potties will be outside
  • Event doors will open at 8:00am for athletes and their coaches/handlers ($10 ticket, purchase below). Guests/family/spectators may enter at 9:00am ($10 ticket, purchase below, no exceptions). If not sold out before, spectator tickets may be available at the door for $10 cash or $15 Venmo. Kids under 16 are free
  • Athletes should store their gear in the designated athlete area only
  • We will have one room of the gym set aside for general athlete warmup space. General athlete warmups can begin whenever the athlete desires; warmups for each event on comp equipment will be announced at the comp. More details about warmups below
  • Volunteer meeting will begin promptly at 9:00am. All volunteers should plan to attend this meeting
  • Athlete rules meeting will begin promptly at 9:30am. All athletes must attend; coaches may attend. All other spectators should not plan to attend
  • National Anthem will be at 9:50am
  • Lifting begins promptly at 10:00am
  • Sponsored by Bank of Ann Arbor: We will run a couple family-friendly, audience-participation games between events as volunteers are setting up. We will also have a costume contest - one for kids and one for adults. Please wear your favorite (appropriate) Halloween costume and maybe you'll win a prize!

PARKING:

Athletes may unload at the DMG entrance but will need to park in the designated parking lot. Details will be emailed to athletes before the comp and signs will be posted on comp day

OTHER GENERAL INFO:

  • Due to insurance regulations, we cannot allow animals inside our facility. As dog/cat/fish/lizard/cheetah lovers ourselves, we wish it were possible, but unfortunately we will have to turn your pet away at the door :(
  • DMG's 2 indoor bathrooms will be reserved for athletes and volunteers only. We will have 2 porta-potties outside for guests and spectators to use
  • We will have food and beverages for sale during the comp (specific vendors TBD)
  • We will have a few other items available on a donation basis, plus a fundraiser or two
  • Athletes will have a designated room to store their bags/gear/chairs/coolers, etc. There's plenty of space but spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No bags or gear will be able to be stored in the comp room or other rooms

WARMUPS:

  • We will have one room at DMG set aside for general athlete warmups. Event warmup on specific comp equipment will be announced at the comp. Warmup time on comp equipment will be limited so please plan accordingly. It may not be possible to warm up to a higher weight on specific comp equipment but there will be alternate equipment (i.e., you may not be able to warm up to 750# on the comp mammoth bar + tires, but you will have access to a deadlift bar + wagon wheels and weights)
  • Once official lifting begins for an event, all warmups on that equipment will cease

EVENT RULES AND INFORMATION:

Events, rules, and weights subject to change without  notice. The rules meeting on comp day will go over the rules for each event.


GENERAL RULES:

  • Comp shirt must be worn for the group picture and for any events where a grip shirt isn't worn
  • No OSG or Strongman Corp grip shirts or other gear allowed
  • Feet must be covered; i.e., no bare feet
  • Being reckless with equipment, the facilities, or otherwise endangering the safety of any person will result in an immediate disqualification from that event and a score of 0 for the event, and egregious incidents may result in expulsion from the comp and facilities
  • Please do not approach the scorekeepers or scoring table. Scores will be updated on Iron Podium in real time. Any questions must be brought to a designated volunteer who will be introduced during the rules meeting. Only the athlete may bring any issues to the volunteer's attention, not coaches/friends/family. (Thank you in advance!)
     

EVENT 1 – Max Motor City Mammoth Bar Deadlift:

  • Arsenal Athletics Mammoth Bar + tires. Pick height will be approximately 14-15"
  • Athlete will start with hands off the implement, must strap in on the clock
  • Min weights: 182# for women's classes, 422# for men's classes
  • Jumps: each bar will start with 20# jumps and may decrease to 10# as weight increases
  • Comp volunteer will announce weight on the bar and athletes may jump in at will, so please pay attention to announcements
  • 30 second time limit per attempt
  • 3 attempts per athlete following Wessels Rule
    • Wessels Rule: 3 attempts; if you miss an attempt you are finished; if there's a tie the person who got the lift in an earlier attempt beats the other
  • Athlete's hands must be wrapped around the bar; no "fingertipping"
  • Hips and knees must be locked out; athlete must wait for judge's down command
  • No lift / zero will be given for soft lockouts, jumping the down command, dropping the bar from lockout, "fingertipping" the bar with figure 8 or other straps/gear, or exceeding the time limit
  • Athlete's shins must be covered (leggings, knee high socks, etc)
  • Allowed: straps, suits, hitching, wrist wraps, knee sleeves/wraps, belt (built up ok), mouthguard, chalk (liquid or dry)
  • Not Allowed: sumo, gloves, hooks, doubled up anything besides belt, tacky/ any adhesive, no bare feet (socks ok)
     

EVENT 2 - Viking Press Face-Off:

  • Apollo Strength Equipment Viking Press - facing away from the implement, facing your fellow athlete
      *Event weight listed is weight on the apparatus. Weight in hand is approximately 70-80% of that weight, but train heavy!
  • The front support of the Viking press apparatus will be adjusted to the athlete's height. Front height will be taken at weigh ins
  • Athlete may start with hands on the implement
  • 60 seconds to perform as many reps as possible at the prescribed weight
  • Each rep must be fully locked out overhead and under control with feet even and still; athlete must wait for judge's down command
  • No resting the implement on the front support; incidental touching is ok (at judge's discretion)
  • No lift / zero will be given for bouncing off front support, soft lockouts, jumping the down command, split jerk/starfishing, dropping the apparatus from overhead, or exceeding the time limit
      *Athletes are responsible for showing their judge any credible physical limitations that may prevent full lockout
  • Allowed: 
      Technique: strict press, push press, double dip
      Equipment: wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, grip shirt (no OSG or SC), knee sleeves/wraps, belt (built up ok), mouthguard, chalk (liquid or dry)
  • Not Allowed: 
      Technique: split jerk, starfishing, dropping the apparatus from overhead
      Equipment: gloves, straps, suits, doubled up anything besides belt, tacky/ any adhesive
     

EVENT 3 - Coffin Run:

  • Monster Frame Run - equipment specs will be posted at a later date
  • Athlete may start with hands on the implement
  • 60 seconds to carry coffin (frame) 40' down, drop, turn, repick and carry 40' back
  • No drops besides at first 40' line
  • Entire coffin (frame) must cross first 40' line, front of coffin (frame) only must cross finish line to stop the clock
  • If athlete cannot complete the event in 60 seconds, distance will be recorded. Fastest time OR longest distance recorded wins
  • Allowed: wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, knee sleeves/wraps, belt (built up ok), mouthguard, chalk (liquid or dry)
  • Not Allowed: gloves, straps, hooks, doubled up anything besides belt, tacky / any adhesive


EVENT 4 - Monster Squat:

  • Tire Axle Squat to Boxes
    • Women's box height = 20"
    • Men's box height = 24"
    • Tires have a ~15" radius
  • The bar will be set to the athlete's height. Height will be taken at weigh-ins
  • Athlete will start under the bar
  • 60 seconds to perform as many reps as possible at the prescribed weight
  • For each rep, both tires must touch its box at the bottom and the athlete's hips and knees fully locked out at the top; athlete must wait for judge's down command
  • No lift / zero will be given for soft lockouts, jumping the down command, or exceeding the time limit
  • Allowed: suits/briefs, grip shirt (no OSG or SC), wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, knee sleeves/wraps, belt (built up ok), mouthguard, chalk (liquid or dry)
  • Not Allowed: doubled up anything besides belt, tacky/ any adhesive, bare feet (socks ok)
     

EVENT 5 - Gravedigger's Medley:
Sponsored by Cerberus Strength USA

  • Body (Cerberus sandbag) / tombstone (husafel) carry and load to coffin (sled) drag
  • Athlete will start with hands off the implement
  • 60 seconds to carry body (Cerberus sandbag) 40' and load into coffin (sled), run back 40' to pick/carry tombstone (husafel) back 40' and set upright onto 'grave' (mat), then drag sled back 40' to finish line
      *Throwing of the any implement in any way or being reckless with equipment will result in an immediate disqualification 
        from that event and a score of 0 for the event
    • If the tombstone (husafel) falls, athlete must pick it up and set upright before continuing
    • Sled will be pre-loaded with additional weight
  • No drops allowed (clock stops if athlete drops an implement)
  • Entire sled must cross finish line to stop the clock. If any implement falls out of the sled, athlete must repick and load then continue with the event
  • If athlete cannot complete the event in 60 seconds, distance will be recorded. Fastest time OR longest distance recorded wins
  • Allowed: gloves, grip shirt (no OSG or SC), wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, knee sleeves/wraps, belt (built up ok), mouthguard, chalk (liquid or dry)
  • Not Allowed: straps, doubled up anything besides belt, tacky/ any adhesive
     

TIE BREAKER:

If any podium spots come down to a tie, we will do one final event to see who wants the win more. Event will not be announced until we are in the moment.
