Welcome to the first annual Show Me Strong Championship hosted by Bodyfit KC in Midtown and sanctioned by Strongman Corporation!
Weigh-ins will be Friday September, 26th from 3-7pm and Saturday September 27th from 6-7am in the Bodyfit KC lobby. If you are overweight for your division on Friday, you will have an opportunity to weigh-in again on Saturday morning.
As a Strongman Corporation-sanctioned competition, you will have the opportunity to qualify for nationals.
The number of qualified athletes is based on the number of athletes in each class on competition day as follows:
• 1 athlete in a class: the promoter may merge the class with another class; if the athlete competes alone they will earn an invite by completing (i.e. not “zeroing”) at least 4 of the 5 events to the standards originally set forth by the promoter.
• 2-4 athletes in a class: 1st place qualifies for Nationals
• 5-9 athletes in a class: 1st and 2nd place qualify for Nationals
• 10+ athletes in a class: 1st-3rd place qualify for Nationals
Competitions 4-8 weeks before Nationals can qualify for the upcoming Nationals or Nationals the following year, but not both. This is at the athlete’s discretion. Competitions less than 4 weeks before Nationals qualify for Nationals the following year. All other competitions qualify for the upcoming Nationals.
Event 1: Axle C&P Ladder
Athletes will be given 60 seconds to clean and press 4 axle bars of increasing weight and repping the final bar until the 60 seconds is complete. The total number of reps completed will determine scores. Athlete must maintain control of bar on its descent or receive no lift.
Equipment allowed: knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, regular straps, belts, briefs, knee wraps, grip shirt must be worn under under competition shirt
Equipment not allowed: Tacky of any kind, figure 8 straps
Event 2: Yoke Carry for Distance
Athletes will be given 60 seconds to carry a yoke for maximum distance. Lanes will be 50 feet, the front of the yoke must cross the 50ft mark before you can turn around and carry back. There is no drop limit, so go until you are given the command to stop.
If the athlete slides the yoke to increase their distance, a penalty of 5ft per slide will be assessed.
Equipment Allowed: Belts, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, power briefs/hot pants, knee wraps, grip shirt must be worn under competition shirt
Equipment not allowed: Tacky of any kind
Event 3: Stone to shoulder for Reps
Athlete will be given 60 seconds to choose between stone weights and bring the atlas stone up to their shoulder with full control. Full control constitutes no movement and only one hand on the stone. Athlete will be given a down command by referee when control is complete. Athlete must then be able to control the atlas stone to the ground so as not to damage the equipment. Not maintaining control on the way down will result in an incomplete lift.
One rep at the higher stone weight beats multiple reps at the lower stone weight. Ex: competitor 1 completes a single rep of the higher stone weight, and competitor 2 completes 5,000 reps of the lower stone weight. Competitor 1 still wins.
Equipment allowed: Tacky towel (not regular tacky from a jar), belt, elbow sleeves, knee sleeves, grip shirt under competition shirt, stone sleeves, taped arms
Equipment not allowed: Gloves, tacky
Event 4: Max Raw Deadlift
Wessels Rules (max of 3 attempts, miss any attempt and you are done). Athlete will get the opportunity to show off true deadlift prowess as no suits or briefs will be allowed. Athlete will be given 30 seconds to complete a rep. The ref will give down command for a completed rep. Athlete must keep hands on the bar on the descent and not drop it from the lockout position so as not to damage equipment. Dropping the bar from your lockout position will not count as a rep.
Equipment allowed: Knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, single belt, wrist wraps, Figure 8 straps, figure 6 straps
Equipment not allowed: deadlift suits, squat suits, knee wraps, power briefs/hot pants, tacky
Event 5: Dinnie Stone Handle Hold
Athlete will test their grip and grit with a strongman classic Dinnie Stone handle hold. Mock Dinnie Stone handles will be attached to set weights, athletes will be given a command to begin and lift the weight attached to the handles. Time will be recorded until the first handle is dropped.
Equipment allowed: Belts, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps
Equipment not allowed: figure 8 straps, figure 6 straps, tacky, anything other than chalk on your hands
If there are changes/modifications to events, we will do our best to notify you as quickly as possible. We will be updating weights as we determine what is appropriate for each event and class.
There will be a $5 spectator fee for all guests over the age of 12 that will be collected at the door. Admittance without a wristband for non-athletes is not permitted. No outside food or drinks (other than water) will be allowed. Athletes may bring their snacks/drinks for the day, but we will have concessions available. We are also located in midtown next to several local restaurants who would appreciate your support of their small business!
