Strongman Showdown at the Grounds
$80
Mobile, AL
Strongman Showdown at the County Fairgrounds
Where grit meets glory in the dirt arena!
1. The Iron Duel at High Noon
Head-to-Head Deadlift for Reps
Two bars to choose from! It’s man versus man, woman vs woman, in head-to-head pulls of raw power.
- The athletes will have 60 seconds to complete as many standard deadlift reps as possible.
- There will be two lanes for two athletes to go at a time. Each athlete will have two bars, one bar being heavier. One point per rep will be given for the event.
- Athletes can choose which weight to pull, however any reps on the heavier bar trumps all reps on the lighter bar (there is no benefit to having reps on both lighter bar and heavier bar).
- A down command must be given within the 60-second time limit for the rep to be awarded.
- No touch-and-go reps allowed. Athletes may or may not be given one warning depending on how egregious.
- Conventional stance only
- Hitching is allowed
- Equipment allowed: soft briefs, lifting straps, chalk, sleeves, belts, baby powder
- Equipment not allowed: no suits, no hard briefs
2. Bale Bustin’ Farmers Relay
Hay Bale Carry & Farmers Walk
It’s a rush to load hay bales into the feed trough before testing your grip on the farmers handles for the walk back—think farm chores on a whole new level.
- Each athlete will carry four hay bales from the start line 40’ down and load them inside a designated area. Then the athlete will pickup the farmers handles and walk them back the 40’ to the original start line (now the finish line).
- Athletes can carry as many hay bales at a time to develop the best strategy for the quickest time. Hay bales can also be thrown, but all four bales must be inside the designated area before the athlete can move on to the farmers handles.
- Front of farmers implement must pass the finish line for time to stop.
- Athletes will get 1 point for loading all four hay bales then either a distance measurement will be taken for the farmers or a total time if the course is completed. If the athlete fails to load all four hay bales then a zero will be given for the event.
- This event has a 90-second time cap.
- Equipment allowed: soft briefs, chalk, sleeves, belts
- Equipment not allowed: no sticky substances
3. Sky-High Keg Toss
Keg Toss for Height & Distance
Watch the kegs fly! Athletes toss weighted kegs over a bar into distance point zones. Every foot further brings bigger cheers!
- Height of keg toss will be 14’ for men and 12’ for women.
- There will be three zones that are 10-feet deep each. Zone 1 is worth 1 point, Zone 2 is worth 2 points, Zone 3 is worth 3 points. Any part of the keg crossing into the next zone scores points for the more valuable zone.
- Athletes will have 60 seconds to throw five kegs over a bar and into the zones (last keg thrown must be released at or before 60-second mark, meaning a keg can count after 60 seconds if it is flying, landing, or rolling…)
- If a keg clears the bar, that keg cannot be thrown again. If a keg does not clear the bar, the athlete can use their time to retrieve and throw that keg again.
- Kegs must be thrown from lightest to heavy. A lighter keg must clear the bar before the athlete can advanced to a heavier keg. Kegs that do not clear the bar earn no points
- Total points will be calculated by scoring where kegs are at the end of the 60 second time limit.
- Equipment allowed: soft briefs, chalk, sleeves, grip shirts, wrist wraps, belts
- Equipment not allowed: no sticky substances
4. The Lumberjack Lift-Off
Monster Dumbbell Press for Reps
Overhead pressing giant dumbbells like a true backwoods beast! Bells of varying weight—your choice. How many can you lift before the whistle blows?
- The athlete will have 60 seconds to complete as many dumbbell clean and press reps as possible.
- Several monster dumbbells will be available to choose from. The heavier dumbbell trumps all reps on lighter (there is no benefit to having reps on both lighter dumbbell and heavier dumbbell).
- It is a clean and press event, meaning the dumbbell must make contact with the ground between each rep.
- A down command must be given within the 60-second time limit for rep to be awarded.
- Both hands can be used to get the dumbbell positioned on the shoulder. Only one hand is allowed on the dumbbell once the dumbbell leaves contact with the shoulder for the press.
- Arm must be sufficiently locked out with the dumbbell overhead, feet parallel, and a sufficient level of body stability present (all at the judge’s discretion) to have a down call given and a rep to be awarded.
- Equipment allowed: soft briefs, chalk, sleeves, grip shirts, wrist wraps, belts
- Equipment not allowed: no sticky substances
5. Feed Freedom
Sandbag-loading Race
The ultimate test of practical strength—four heavy bags will be heaved up and over a horizontal pole, in a dusty display of might!
- Athletes will have 60 seconds to load four Freedom Strength sandbags over a horizontal pole for time.
- Pole height will be 48” from ground.
- Event will be scored by one rep per bag and then quickest time.
- Bags must be loaded lightest to heaviest
- Hands must be off of bag at time expiration for last rep to count
- Equipment allowed: grip shirts, belts without sharp buckles, sleeves
- Equipment not allowed: no sticky substances
