---- EVENTS & RULES ----
1.) Conan’s Wheel (for distance)
60 second time limit
Athletes, feel free to start with your arms under the bar ready to go. Once given the start command, lift the implement and walk in a circle until you drop the weight, it's really that simple. Total distance will be measured. Athlete who carries the Conan Wheel the farthest wins...like that scene in 'Conan the Barbarian' where Arnold pushes the mill axle for like 15 years & somehow develops a Mr. O physique.
Only the plate weight is listed in the event weights matrix. The apparatus weight is not included, so please don't ask this at the rules meeting. Or do,
Allowed: Belts, wrist wraps, elbow and knee sleeves, chalk, grippy shirts (none from those other strongman folks please).
Not Allowed: Suits/briefs, tacky, tacky towel, elbow & knee wraps, grip aids of any kind aside from chalk, this means no liquid chalk either!
2.) Max Overhead Press from Rack
The athlete will start positioned in front of the barbell loaded on the rack. When given the start command, the athlete will attempt a single rep. Muster all you got, bubbas & bubbettes this is a max weight event and the spectators didn't come to see no weaksauce. Wessel's Rules, named after the godfather himself. The athlete must wait for the judges down command each rep, don't screw yourself out of a good rep by getting ahead of the judge & for goodness sake ya'll, keep your feet still before you rerack the bar. Full lockout and stable feet get you a down command.
Light bar's gonna start with a cool hundo (100) & we'll add 10 lbs. every time the bar rises.
Heavy bar will start with 200 and you'll get 20 lbs. added every time the bar rises.
Now, traditionally the light bar is for the ladies & the heavy bar is for the gents, but you can pick either gender-neutral bar & press that hunk of metal, but once you choose one, you're stuck with it. Remember, you only get three lifts, so choose wisely.
Equipment Allowed: Belt, soft belt, elbow & knee sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk
Not Allowed: Grip aids of any kind aside from gym chalk, power suits, squat briefs, elbow/knee wraps, springs, levers or pulleys
3.) Super Yoke / Refrigerator Yoke Carry
The athlete will begin in contact with the yoke but the yoke must remain on the ground until the start signal, which is usually the word START, duhhh. When the person designated to start the event does so, the athlete will pick up the yoke and carry that mofo 25 feet, set it down, turn in their most athletic fashion, pick up the yoke again, and carry that heavy hunk of steel back across the start/finish line. Now remember strong people, the whole yoke has to cross the turn around line, but just the front of that sumbitch needs to cross the finish line. Drop it as much as you need to, little buddy, but just don't quit.
Equipment Allowed: Soft Belt, Belt, knee sleeves, knee wraps, kilts, grippy shirts, chalk
Not Allowed: Levers, pulleys, motorized conveyances, super suits, squat briefs (although tighty-whiteys are GTG)
4.) Sandbag Toss
Ladies - chunkin' over a 12 ft bar
Gents - chiunkin' over a 15 foot bar
60 second time limit
This is a good one - you get to see strongmen run!
Athlete will start with at least one of his/her hands on the thingy the horizontal bars are mounted to...most likely a yoke. On the start command, the athlete will run over to a sandbag we generously placed handle-up about 15 feet away, throw that cabron backward over the bar, run to where their sandbag landed and throw it back over the bar. The athlete will continue throwing the bag over the bar until time expires or until they get tired...lookin' at you, super heavies.
Allowed: Belts, wrist wraps, elbow and knee sleeves, chalk,
Not Allowed: Suits/briefs, tacky, tacky towel, elbow & knee wraps, grip aids of any kind, springe, catapults, trebuchets, launchers
5.) Harness Truck Pull
Time limit is 60 seconds as per usual.
We're gonna strap you into a harness & you're gonna pull a big ass military truck about 50 feet on not-so-level concrete. Everyone will have the choice of using a lead rope to help you get started, but if you're a staunch observer of the first rule of strongman (be strong) you can choose not to use the lead rope. However, if not using the lead rope costs you the event win, that's on you & your ego. We have a couple of small harnesses and a couple Spud Inc harnesses, pick whichever you want BEFORE it's your turn and you should probably tell one of us running the event; we have incredible volunteers, but we didn't get a mind reader.
ONLY THE TIP OF YOUR SHOE HAS TO CROSS THE FINISH LINE!
Equipment Allowed: Knee sleeves, gloves, and all the usual stuff
Not Allowed: Negative attitude, magic, help from other people, super suits, squat briefs
Tie Breakers will be determined by countback (ask your coach if you don't know).
